Cool trip but would be very low down on my list.  Sure, it would be cool but you can catch snakehead of size here in the US and I would want to go after something I can't catch here at all.

I'd probably go for golden dorado or taimen if had a dream trip planned and already did the peacock bass trip like yourself

Dude - save 90% of your money and go get them in the Potomac and enjoy everything else in the area while you’re there - it’s a fantastic fishery.

solid logic @VolFan.  solid!

but somehow the added adventure of foreign lands and foreign languages adds to the allure for any fishing trip.  I could have gone for much smaller peacock in Florida, but I wouldn't have seen/done/tasted/smelled/heard the things I did in Brazil.

its the package I am seeking.

Haha.  I just said that I tangled with all the snakehead I needed on the Potomac and the Rappahonock.  If I was traveling out of the country it would be for something more exotic.  Also we have Northern snakehead not to be confused with the bullseye snakehead down south.

This trip is pretty high on my list. The giant snakehead is a massive, beautiful predator without much relevant info floating around on the internet. I think figuring the fish out for yourself adds to the excitement.

I disagree with the assertion that you get more by targeting similar fish in more accessible places. My #1 bucket list fish is the Sakhalin taimen. Information on these fish is scarce. The only way for me to catch one (a wild one at least) is to go to Hokkaido or Sakhalin island and figure it out myself. The idea of being in foreign wilderness, having to decipher an unfamiliar species, and experiencing different cultures is what makes it so appealing to me. I could just fish for big trout in the States, but that wouldn’t be taimen fishing. I relate to the feeling of wanting to do the most with one life.

Regarding @Darth-Baiter’s proposed trip, I’d say go for it. You have nothing to lose but a bit of money. And time. Well worth it for good memories, imo.

@Buzzbaiter  i think the Mongolian version of that Taimen trip is gonna happen for me before i die.  the biggest challenge for me is to figure out how to cast a fly rod :D

I can teach you that! Been a fly casting instructor for years. It’s a lot easier than it looks along with fly tying

now traveling to another country, I’d rather take a sharp stick in the eye

I watched a short film about a group of fly guys that went taimen fishing years ago at the fly fishing film tour, looked like a cool fish!

I have spent a good bit of my life fishing abroad.  Canada, Mexico, Latin America, South America, The Caribbean,  Australia, even Papua New Guinea.  Most of the time, I was chasing billfish, but fish are fish.  Before you fish anywhere outside US borders, be aware of what you may be getting into.  That is especially true in today's world.  In the 90s, I spent a week in Guatemala fishing for Pacific Sailfish.  On the night we were flying home, rebels dynamited the bridge out of the town and we had to take a harrowing journey though the mountains to get back.  We were protected by armed guards the whole time we were there.  The capital of New Guinea, Port Moresby, is one of the most dangerous cities in the world.  We had a "Crocodile Dundee" to protect us.  That country is the home of huge (20' plus) crocodiles with no swimming signs everywhere.  Two people in our party ended up getting malaria, even though the had their shots in advance.  If you are going to do this, get with someone who is experienced to book your trip and plan everything in advance.  Don't assume anything.  The fishing world outside the country is not always pleasant.

I look forward to the report. The ultimate bucket list adventure for me would be going far up the Congo River deep into the heart of the dark continent for the 'mbenga', the goliath tigerfish.
