I've mostly been using cavitrons, but I lost one this weekend and need to replace it. Anything new or recently discovered? Seems like the early reports on the megabass and evergreen were 'meh'.

While I'm at it, Skirt vs Toad? I've almost always used a skirt, although in fairness my biggest fish were on buzzbaits with a toad jammed under the skirt. Probably not ideal.

My big fish came on a stanley buzzin ribbit jr, but that was really for matching the hatch on a bunch of fish eating some shad.

I'm a less or more guy but I fish lakes with fish that have seen lots of baits.

My favorite is the Dirty Jigs 3/8 or 1/2 oz Scott Canterbury with the dull silver blade, or a black one.     Dirty Jigs Scott Canterbury Pro Buzz Buzzbait Version 2 | Tackle Warehouse

Best frog I've found is the Stanley Ribbit 3.5s Stanley Ribbit 3.5" 5pk | Tackle Warehouse

My deal with those Dirty Jig models is the hook, it's like a JDM jerkbait hook.   It's a pain to put on the frogs but use some glue and they'll go longer.

I used 5.5" Spunk Shads in the Spring to great success, I'd imagine a 3.5" one and a 1/4 buzzbait would be the deal this time of year, I imagine I'll buy just that next time to the monkey trap house 😁

Milliken swears by a white stroker craw, and he rarely leads me wrong.   Just don't get the Big Bite Baits Tour Toads, the stupid leg design continual gets stuck in the hook, trying to eat up a few bags now and then only Stanleys from then on.

THe D&M Buzz Saw has consistently produced for me because it is weedless. I can throw it in places you can't throw a traditional buzz bait. I also use the Spunk Shad as a trailer on the free-swinging EWG hook.

For the past couple years I have fished the strike king swinging sugar buzz exclusively. I throw a split tail trailer primarily but will also throw the Kalin’s split tail grub also. I fish a buzz bait as slow as you can reel it and keep it on top. The sugar buzz seems to be the slowest I’ve found.  I’ll fish a 3/8 as my main starting point.  If I’m looking for big fish I’ll go half.  If fish are eating short I’ll go 1/4.

I added the wheeler buzz bait and the finesse buzz bait recently. Not enough time to be sure but I like what I see. Definitely not tuned out of the box though. First one I tied on came back at a 45 degree angle.

I've been very keen to try one of these.

Do you use floating vs sinking toads in different situations?

I use the Strike King mini buzz in the 3/8 size. My 1/2 oz is a dinner Bell buzz bait. I have had good success with them this year.

I have become a buzzbait fanatic this fall and caught a huge pile of fish on them and I'll tell you this much:

Never tossed a buzzbait that didn't catch a fish when they wanted a buzzbait.....with that in mind - favorites are these:

Nichols Reflex and Impulse

Picasso Hog Snatcher

Accent Wheeler original and finesse

Boogerman

Really like them all though.  Buzzbaits are so deadly.

Another fan of the Accent Wheeler original and/or finesse buzzers.

Skirt vs toad? I’m more of a traditional skirt fan, but carry and use both. Toads are better for skipping though and give a different profile.

I always had a terrible time getting buzzbaits to hook up until I tried a 3/8oz cavitron. Now it is usually what I use. I'm convinced the bend in the wire made the difference, as the hook rides lower in the water.

And let's just say I'm a skirt man -- I've never had much success with plastic bodies on the hook of any buzzbait. I find it just makes them sink, and I have to retrieve faster, and wind up with more missed hookups (and fewer strikes most of the time). Your mileage may vary, but that's what I've experienced. Maybe i'm doing it wrong.

Right now is a 1/4 oz Delta Lures, made locally in South Louisiana.

Mustad Ultra Point Hook, an original H&H rubber skirt or custom 44 strand silicone skirt.

An alternative to a buzzbait, especially around grass is a Stanley Bull Ribbit, sounds an awful like like a buzzbait.

the rage toad also has a pretty good plop on the water. I haven’t fished the Stanley but the rage has the most plop and bubble making action I’ve seen on a toad. Definitely my first move if I want to fish a buzz bait but there’s too much stringy grass on the top.

I think in ultra clear water and slick calm conditions and most importantly, highly pressured fish, buzzing a plastic will get you a bigger fish.  😉

The loudest toad I've used is the Incredi-Frog. Check out some of the YouTube vids.

It's REALLY loud!
