Matt Jungblut Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 i bought a g blanks 6'10" heavy action fast tip rod i want to get a new reel to put on it heres my problem i own a shimano chronarch mg 50 love the reel i also own a chronarch ch100bpv sweet reel but its a tank since i bought my mg it gets used the most because its so darn light both reels are super smooth i think the bpv is a little smoother but the weight drives me crazy i plan on using my g blank rod for top water frogs and other big lures that my mg dont work that great for i have narrowed my choices to these few diawa ventio diawa fiego shimano curdo 100d or the new deep spool 1 team diawa advantage supertuned citica 100d if u noticed all these reels are in the 7oz range last but not least could i buy a mg50 and have to modified use bigger lures any help would be great Quote
Super User flechero Posted November 15, 2006 Super User Posted November 15, 2006 I feel your pain... I also bought a few 50 MG's and don't much like the others anymore. ...lol Here are my thoughts for your situation- (remember all of this is my opinion only) No fuego or viento - only 5 lbs drag, not enough for a frog rod. No cu100d or ci100d for the same reason as the 50MG (line cap., assume you use mono or the 50 MG would work) TD advantage- I know nothing about them. If I were you and you do use mono, I would get another 50 MG and buy a Curado 100 B spare spool and swap the spools out or buy a curado or citica 100DSV. All 3 of these have 10lbs of drag. Or if you have a bigger budget, the TD-Z 100 or 103 or even "big bait special" have the line capacity and are light weight... you have some options, it just depends on your budget. Quote
Aaron Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I have a Curado 100D that I love but I use it for soft plastics and jigs and it works well for me. I also have a TD Advantage but its not the supertuned one, I don't use it much but it seems like a really good reel, Im sure the supertuned is even better. How do you like your gblanks rod? I have been looking at them but Im not sure about them. Where did you get yours? Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted November 15, 2006 Author Posted November 15, 2006 flechero i do use braid but thought using bigger heavier lures wouldnt work well with my mg so want to ruin it but using it for something it wasnt made to use it for i have thrown 3\8 oz and 1\2 oz spinnerbaits with it but seems to feel like i am over working the reel but if u say it will handle it i belive u aaron the g blank rod i got is pretty sweet im having a few problems with it though i went from using a 6 foot rod to 6'10" and it feels like a tank funny thing is it weighs the same as my 6 foot imx rod just the extra 10 inchs is what i need to get used to been talking with the guy that makes them might send mine back and get the mh he thinks it will help here is his email if u want to talk to him Lgmitch58@cs.com he is a stand up guy bending over backwards to make me happy i may have found my reel Team Daiwa- Z 100 M Baitcaster used for 225 but says on a scale 1-10 10 being new this 1 is a 9+ what do u guys think should i or pass Quote
lubina Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Like Flechero said, I don't think that either Vieto of Fuego are the best choices. I have 3 TD-Zs, 2 105s (2004 ) and a Big Bait Special, for me the best reels ever created but they are expensive. The TD-Z 100 is an slower reel, 5.7:1 but for that price......a lot of tentation if it only have minimal use. I would also consider the Zillion, very fast, the 6.3 at 27.9 ipt and the 7.1 up to 31., very strong, max drag 11-13 lbs respectively and around $ 250.00. It seem to me like the ideal frog reel.
