bugman Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I see that PowerPro has come up with a Red line. The ad said that fish cant see red under 15' of water. Will the fish be spooked by the red line in water less than the 15'? Quote
castaway Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Unless something changed, the braid will turn white with use anyway.I wouldn't let the red line part deter you from buying it.It might help if you stated what type of fishing you will be doing with it.For Braid, I only fished it in heavy grass beds. I never noticed the white colored line effecting the bite ratio, but then again I didn't use it for general applications. There are those who wouldn't fish anything but flourocarbon line for any technique they fish. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 14, 2006 Super User Posted November 14, 2006 15 feet is where red turns grey/black totally.the line doesn't dissapear.it turns greyish black thus camoflaging the line in all but the clearest water.some people think red attracts bites in shallow water.this is where your red hook theory comes in.red hooks on a deep crank do nothing but turn grey/black.i am coloring the faded ends of my sufix braid red with a permanent marker next year to try it out. Will the fish be spooked by the red line in water less than the 15'? A. I don't think it's possible to draw a hard line like 15 ft, because underwater lighting (subaqueous luminosity) varies according to sky brightness, water clarity, time of day, surface disturbance and other factors. B. In the second place, at a depth of 15 ft there's isn't much color recognition remaining in most lakes, regardless of the color. C. In the third place, it would be of little value in Florida, the bass capital. In Florida, you'd be hard pressed to find 15 ft of water in many of state's finest bass lakes, and when you do find 15 ft of water, it's normally dark, quiet and lonely :-? :-/ :-? Roger Quote
