Souvenirs.  No hat from my layover in Panama, although very tempting.  I wanted one thing to bring back with me.  I elected to hit a tackle shop and buy a Brazilian lure called the Perversa.  It smoked many peacocks.  It darts side to side subsurface. Probable 12 -18” deep.  I think it might be effective darting  it over submerged grass.  I’m hoping a domestic LMB smokes it.  I am changing the hooks first.  Peacock hooks are burly and heavy and not that sharp.   I’ll find a properly sized Owner hook and change them out.   I sought out the most natural color.  Most Perversa were so brightly colored. Like parade floats.

Those look like saltwater hooks.  (and ditto on what's going to happen because you only bought one...LOL)

Very popular down here in Texas.  Can be picked up at most mom and pop shops.  They have one called the LeLe I believe.   Most popular model.  I have one on the wall.

If you get some of the ones I linked (which might be the same as you brought back), I've now managed to change the hooks out.  In hindsight, I'd probably do it differently.  The hooks that come on it are saltwater trebles.  So are the split rings.  The rings are a real bear to split and get the hooks off, especially the heavier wire saltwater ones.  I'd suggest just cutting the split rings and putting new on.

I went with a #2 hook that is either a Berkley fusion hook (that's the package they were in downstairs) or were a takeoff from Rapala OG6's which come with a much heavier hook than I like.  I know I've changed out the OGs, not sure if these are those hooks.  Either way, Its a dead match for size and a much thinner wire and sharper hook than the saltwater ones.  I might get to fish it wednesday and will report back.
