Super User FishTank Posted November 15, 2006 Super User Posted November 15, 2006 I just purchased a new Shimano Calcutta 251 for a really good price (out of respect for the store I will not say how much I stole this real for). Anyway, it did not come with box or instructions. I contacted Shimano and they emailed me a schematic. Is their anyone else owns one of these? Is it a good reel? Any info would be great. I can't wait to test it out. I have used an old Abu Garcia that looks similar to this real years ago but I have been using the new style, low profile baitcasters. Is their a major difference between the old styles and the new? Will I need to fish/cast it differently? Thanks again for all the info. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 15, 2006 Super User Posted November 15, 2006 I own 2 ea. Calcutta 100 and 1 ea. Calcutta 50, my opinion the best reels made Quote
Craw Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 My dad has a whole fleet of Calcuttas and believe me, they are sweet. Smooooottth! This reel is a huge step up from the older Abu Garcia you mentioned so take comfort in the investment you've made. Congratulations on getting a great deal on it. Quote
SneakySnook Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I have a 251 and love it. Mine is 9 years old and use it for freshwater and saltwater fishing. You just bought yourself a great reel. Congrats on finding a great deal. Quote
mike bat Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 well ill say it.... more than likely the most solid reel ever made// i live in WI ... MUSKIE land and i know for a fact the majority of muskie anglers rely on calcuttas for tossin the bigg baits ... the calcutta is a work of art and not to mention almost never on sale ,,,well here anyway .... enjoy ,,, it is a sweet reel .... and you found your self a steal // ;D Quote
Super User Alpster Posted November 15, 2006 Super User Posted November 15, 2006 I have a dozen Shimanos and 3 of them are Calcuttas. If it starts with Shimano and ends with Calcutta you cannot go wrong. ENJOY! Ronnie Quote
