LCG Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Hello all, Looking to spool up with some heavy braid, probably 65lb, for fishing in heavy vegetation. Weeds, hydrilla or milfoil (not sure which), some lay downs and standing timber. Targeting largemouth, smallmouth, and pike. Looking for a solid braid that can take some abuse and casts well. Thanks in advance. Quote
shackman Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Original power pro is all I’ve ever used and never had a reason to change. 5 1 Quote
PaulVE64 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 In weeds the original Power Pro does a better job of cutting & ripping thru, but it's not the best in timber. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 14, 2023 Super User Posted October 14, 2023 Fins 40G 65lb on braid is .016D, round smooth, 8 around 1, strong and doesn’t fray. Tom 1 1 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 14, 2023 Global Moderator Posted October 14, 2023 I like the tactx 50 lb a lot for frog fishing but haven’t tried the 65 yet 1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted October 14, 2023 Super User Posted October 14, 2023 So I've gone to P-Line TCB 8 braid. The others are good but since 2016 I've used this stuff and never looked back. 1 Quote

Super User casts_by_fly Posted October 14, 2023 Super User Posted October 14, 2023 I’m 832. What you’re describing calls for 50lb. 1 1 Quote
Alex from GA Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 I bought a spool of KastKing 60 lb from Amazon a few years ago and have been using it without a problem. Frogs, toads and flipping. 1 Quote

However, the 40lb I have spooled up right now has serious abrasion. The braid is essentially gone and just the middle fiber material is left in spots. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted October 14, 2023 Super User Posted October 14, 2023 Is it just fuzzies or actual cut fibers? My 30 lb 832 fuzzies a good bit but it’s not weakened. If 40 isn’t working for you then 65 might be a good step up. I haven’t found much that 50 doesn’t handle happily (musky teeth are one) but ymmv. 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted October 14, 2023 Super User Posted October 14, 2023 I've tried quite a few, and IMO 832 is king in cover. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 14, 2023 Super User Posted October 14, 2023 50 pound suffix 832 for this guy too 1 1 Quote

The braid itself appears to be cut, but the gore fibers in the middle are holding strong. I have used 832 in 10lb on spinning for a few years and always been happy. Maybe it's just a matter of stepping up to 65lb. Wasn't sure if there was anything better suited for the job. Thanks for the tips Quote
