FrankN209 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 What is your lightest bass baitcaster setup? With my Steez LTD w/roro xspool, ceramic bearings, i have 20lb braid to 10lb blue label and a Expride 7'2" ML, it all weighs at 10.4oz. 3 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted October 12, 2023 Super User Posted October 12, 2023 9.2 oz, Steez (Ray's Studio spool), PE#1.2, on Valleyhill ROC-67MMM Same reel on my salt finesse rod, though, comes in at 8.5 oz. (was just talking about this on a different forum) 2 Quote
looking45 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 Daiwa Tatula 1000 spooled with 4# fluoro on a GLoomis IMX 781 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted October 12, 2023 Super User Posted October 12, 2023 in physical weight, its my 6'10" Falcon expert topwater MH with an Abu MGX and a full spool of 14 lb mono. With the senko that's on it the whole thing weighs 9.3, so right about 9 oz when you cut the senko off. 2 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 I think my lightest setups would either be the Kistler Helium 7' MF with the Daiwa T3 MX or the the 6'3" e21 Carrot Stix with the Daiwa T3 SV. I believe the T3's are about 6.5oz. I don't know that I have any casting reels lighter than them. Maybe the new Zillion or my Shimano Scorpion Metanium MG7?? If I remember right, the Carrot Stix is 3.4oz and the Helium is like 3.5oz. 2 Quote
Peacedivision Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 I haven't put them on a scale but in hand I think either the Dobyns SUF701C + Aldebaran BFS or Expride 610M + Aldebaran MGL 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 12, 2023 Global Moderator Posted October 12, 2023 I wouldn’t even know how to weigh it haha 2 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted October 12, 2023 Super User Posted October 12, 2023 iRod Harold’s Lone Star Special with a Curado MGL 150 is my lightest. But I saw @A-Jay comment a bit ago that he’s not really all crazy about super light setups and I thought about what I like in a rod and reel after that and gotta say I kinda agree. I can do without super light setups 2 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted October 12, 2023 Super User Posted October 12, 2023 I’ve weighed my socks before. I’ve never weighed a rod and reel. 😆 1 2 Quote
dave Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I have custom built, light power, fast rod and a Shimano Stile 100XG. I have to hold on to it so it doesn't float away like a helium balloon... 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 13, 2023 Super User Posted October 13, 2023 Curious went into the garage and weighed my 2 casting combo’s. Feigning lack of imagination is colloquial humor, used too often in off-topic posts to imply those posting on-topic are elitist. 2 Quote

I can do without super light setups The bigger and heavier the setup the more tiring it will be to use. There's no question about that. But how it affects you and whether that's important is another matter yet. A-jay lifts weights so I'm sure he could pitch with an offshore rod all day and not feel it. For me, tip weight/swing weight is more important than absolute weight. Most of my rods are in that 10-11 oz range in total like most everyone else here. Considering how many baitcasting reels are in the 7-8 oz range, that's putting most of the weight right in your hand which is where it should be. 3 Quote
