Super User Further North Posted October 8, 2023 Super User Posted October 8, 2023 Hey, did you guys know that if some guys launch at the same river launch you're planning on fishing almost three hours before you (they launched about 5:40 AM, we launched about 8:30 AM) and you catch up to them three hours after that, not rushing at all, just floating at a normal pace, that it's poor fishing etiquette? 😂 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 I was camping out a fishing spot one time because that’s what weather conditions called for. It was an area easily fished from the bank I was in my boat. A bank fisherman showed up told me I was in his spot.  I said well I was here before you and I’ll be here when you leave so I hope you like the color of my boat. If I roll up an someone’s bank fishing I won’t get in their way. If I am already there and that’s where you decide to fish sorry for your luck. 7 Quote

I figure it’s a lot easier for me to get to a different spot. Most of the lakes here aren’t known for shoreline access. 2 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 @ElGuapo928 this spot is about 20 yards from a parking lot and a stone portage down to it. Very easy access from  the bank. Actually harder to get to from a boat stand point.  kids are different. I wouldn’t give any adult the spot i’m currently catching fish. 2 Quote

Definitely quite a bit different than around here. 1 Quote
Super User Further North Posted October 12, 2023 Author Super User Posted October 12, 2023 Today's float was almost exactly the opposite. We were the boat that launched first, and not far from where we ran into the river-owners, another angler in a boat moving faster than ours caught up with us. He moved over to the other side of the river as he went past, and pleasant conversation took place about what each boat had seen so far. He moved on and we went back to fishing. Â 1 Quote

Your initial post in this thread, did the other floater bark at you when you caught up to them?  I assume you had a verbal altercation with them considering you posted that it was not proper etiquette.  Also, how was the fishing?  Have your water levels come up recently? Quote

Yeah, they barked at us. They tried to have a verbal altercation with us, but became frustrated with us laughing at them. Perhaps we could have been more understanding, but when some jackwagon starts a conversation with, " I just need to say this..." adults are not going to be predisposed to give it the attention the jackwagon feels he deserves. Fishing has been great; catching, not as good...and yes, water levels are way up. I feel like it should have made things better, but it hasn't worked out that way. Rivers are wonderful...and frustrating, at the same time. ...you still need come over and fish.  3 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 12, 2023 Super User Posted October 12, 2023 Your water levels should get even higher after the next few days. Still low around here but they're talking 3+ inches of rain between now and Saturday. 1 Quote

That'll foul up what was a stable system even more. 😉 We moved five muskies today, not one of which was interested in eating a fly. Rotten bastiches. 😀 ...but one slow thinking smallies came out after a fly nearly as big as it was, so there's that.  1 Quote

Since late September, I've received over 13 inches of rain. 1 Quote

Kirtley Howe Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Benn raining all day here. Not hard, but steady. Supposed to rain like this for another 2 days and nights. I am guessing we will get 4-5 inches total. And we did not need it. My back yard has been a swamp all summer. I was hoping to get it mowed at least one more time, but unless we have some very dry and unseasonably warm weather for the next 10 days, I don't think that is going to happen. Quote

Such a contrast between different parts of the country. We were really dry - all the rivers except one were unfloatable - until about a month ago, and we've had decent, steady rain since. As I was mowing my lawn for what hoped would be the last time this afternoon, I realized I'd have to do it again...so I didn't bother mowing the paths out back. Â 1 Quote
Super User Solution Further North Posted October 15, 2023 Author Super User Solution Posted October 15, 2023 Another follow up: Â We were met at the put in at another river by some young men - roughly the age of the river-owners in the original post. Â They arrived a few minutes after us, and they parked, walked over as we were launching, introduced themselves, and asked what our plan was for the day. Â When we told them we'd be floating down-river several miles, they told us they were planning to work the area around the dam, then head for another river for a short float. Â It's things like this that inspire me to think we're not doomed. 1 Quote

Me and my partner were fishing a two day high school championship and doing really well. On day two we pulled up to our morning spot in a very very small creek. There was angler already at our side of the creek that produced the biggest fish the day prior so being the nice person I take the bank opposite of him. Me and my partner are fishing our water covering it pretty quickly. We picked up a limit and even culled a few times before we had fished the entire cove up to this angler. Since I had seen that he was now fishing the bank in my direction and I in his, I cranked the trolling motor to ten and gave him a good 100 yard buffer on either side of his boat and began to try to fish the water he had just fished. Well, this kind gentlemen did not like that, he also cranked his trolling motor, spun around and attempted to race me to the water I was going to hit. I beat him because I have a garmin force on my boat and he had an ultrex. But when I got a good distance on the bank ahead of him I began fishing, this man drove his trolling motor within ten feet of my boat and proceeded to cuss me and my partner. He cussed us for quote, "cutting me off and fishing my stretch". I asked him nicely what his stretch was and he pointed from the back of the creek where I had just come from (about 600 yrds) away to the large main lake mouth of the creek about a half mile away. I just laughed and kept fishing.  1 Quote
