LCG Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I purchased a Lew's Speed Spool LFS earlier this year and I have been pleasantly surprised how good this reel is. Distance is good, control is excellent, pretty smooth, very comfortable. Great value. A few days ago I bought a Daiwa Aird X 7 MH-F 2 piece casting rod, as I was looking to add another MH rod for reaction baits, and from what I read this rod is more moderate fast. Took it our today and I was very impressed. It is moderate fast at the tip but MH in the backbone. Was casting spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs, and texas rigs just to see if I could feel the bottom (passed with flying colors). Caught a few pike and a smallmouth and the rod loads up nice and deep with plenty of power. It's nice that you don't have to spend a fortune to get good gear nowdays. I see another Speed Spool in my future and would not hesitate to buy another Aird X if I ever need another rod. Just thought I would share my experience, in case anyone is looking to beat some of this inflation and pick up a budget combo. 5 Quote
Big Swimbait Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 Good advice! That LFS Speed Spool is a great reel for the price. Quote
zell_pop1 Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I have a Coastal Aird X, good rod for $49.99 and a nice buy for budget minded anglers. Quote
Big Hands Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 I have fished the Aird-X MH/F rod and I didn't think it was more of a fast action than moderate. Quote

Interesting...I find the Aird X action similar to my Daiwa Rebellion 6'10 MH-R, kind of between moderate fast and fast. I have come to like that action with a MH backbone. 1 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted October 8, 2023 Super User Posted October 8, 2023 No experience with Lews. But I have two Aird-X baitcasting rods (M/H & MH/F) and truth be told, they are darned hard to beat for $49.99. Quote
crypt Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 I won 2 of these rods as door prizes at a tourney and found that they are really good rods. use them for spinnerbaits, squarebills, traps. didn't know what retail was until after I had them and was very impressed in them. great rod for the money. greentrout Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 When I bank fish, I can be rough on my rods and reels. Shimano and Daiwa make two inexpensive very good tough spinning reels. Shimano the Sienna 2500. Daiwa the Crossfire LT 2500. Both ready for battle. Both a great value. 1 Quote
Functional Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 I have one speed spool but its honestly a fairly under rated reel for the price. I feel it performs better than my slx mgls for anything heavier than a ned rid weight. As I replace reels it will likely end up being with another speed spool or 2. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 I agree with you. I bought the two piece airdx cause my 1 piece wouldn’t fit in my wife’s car. Turned out to be a real pleasure to use for cranks and spoons. Quote
