speakingofjared Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Hello all! I am in search of a crankbait rod, 7' or over, to throw the following baits; Lucky Craft LC 1.5 (1/2oz) 6th sense 50x (3/8oz) 6th sense C6 (1/2 oz) Rapala DT8 (3/8oz) 6th sense curve 55 (3/8oz) Bomber 7A (1/2oz) Strike King 3xd (7/16oz) Price real doesn't matter, but i usually budget around $200-$300. Looking for a longer rod to make longer casts for shallow/medium divers. I already own a 783cbr, but i main use that for jerkbaits. TIA Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 I'm a big fan of the fish catching ability of the Strike King 3XD, but it casts like an absolute potato chip. It wobbles and goofs off en route to 15' short of your target, at least for me. It calls for a pretty light cranking rod. I used to fish it on a Daiwa Tatula XT 7' Medium Light Regular. I now fish it on a 13 Fishing Omen Black 3 7'1" Medium Cranking. Both of them load very well down the length of the blank and get me good distance with that bait, which I believe to be critical with the 3XD. The XT MLR isn't made anymore, so my suggestion is a 13 Fishing offering in a Medium power from their cranking line. You will not be disappointed. Alternatively, I've had my eyes on the Ark Invoker Tour cranking rods, and from playing with a buddy's jerkbait rod I don't think you'd be disappointed there, either. I believe Ark is going to slot in where 13 formerly offered me a nice blank for less money since 13 has been bought out by Rapala and seems to be sliding out of the lure game and offering less sticks than they used to. The stick from Ark I'm particularly interested in is the 7'11" Medium Medium Fast Invoker Tour, rated ⅛-1 ounce. That's probably a bit long for those other baits, but I see that stick and start thinking Wiggle Wart, 3XD, RkCrawler, and Head Hunter Fire Tail Craw. 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted October 2, 2023 Super User Posted October 2, 2023 That’s my bread and butter range for crank baits. I’m a falcon guy and the 7’3” Hudson special/deep runner range is the right fit. Medium heavy, moderate fast. Plenty of casting power to throw 40+ but good balance of power and poise to hook and land treble hooked fish. I have the expert version (Hudson special) and it’s a great rod for the dt10 and similar sized rods. I don’t fish mine enough because I don’t throw baits in that range enough. I go lighter because I tend to throw dt6 and even lighter cranks as much as anything because we have too much grass to throw crank baits past may. 1 Quote

rangerjockey Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I fish the Rk Crawler/Wart ect. and 1.5's on the Cara medium cranker and Loomis 845 cbr. 2.5's will also work . The deep little N will tax the Falcon but it's OK on the Loomis. Quote

I was looking at medium/mod, mod-fast rods but wasn't sure how they would react with the slightly deeper diving baits (like the deep little n, etc.) Quote
JediAmoeba Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I am loving all my Tatula Elite models. I have the 7'4" bladed jig, 7'6" crankin and the 8' deep cranking models Quote
txchaser Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Tatula Elite in a "R" action ie MH/R. Not sure if they have an AGS version or not. Or if you want to spend up, the St Croix Legend X MH/Mod-F in 7'6" is flat out amazing. Comfortably throwing deep divers this summer, enough tip to throw smaller stuff. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted October 4, 2023 Super User Posted October 4, 2023 There’s a member selling a Dobyns 704 and 705cb. Both for 300 bucks. Sweet deal. Quote

mcipinkie Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I'd buy a BPS Crankin' Stick. 7'-0 Medium. I use various Crankin Sticks for almost all my movement baits. Very good rod for $80. Probably $100 now. As good a rod as ones selling for for twice as much or more. You can always hide them in the rod locker at weigh in. Quote
