Another post about the citica got me looking at reels tonight ... as if I need more of them.  ...lol  anyway I was trying to find actual differences between the Curado 100DSV   vs.  Citica 100DSV.  I am looking in the catalog and there are like 10 different features that say may not be on 100 so I don't have an actual list of what IS on each reel.

I have several 50 Mg's and like them a lot but would like a change of pace... so the 2 reels above seem to fit my needs/wants pretty well.   (size, weight, line cap., drag cap.)

Can anyone tell me what the actual differences are?

Thanks

I've been looking over a number of reels for awhile now and the one thing that comes to mind that the 100 series(Curado and Citica) don't have is Shimano's trademark "high efficiency gearing". To me, the 100 series is a better fit for a multi purpose reel and has a smaller frame which is lighter and easier for me to palm. The Chronarch features "anti-rust bearings" which are not advertised on either the Curado or Citica but as far as I can tell the Chronarch has only the one gear ratio(6.2:1). The Curado offers 3 different gear ratios(6.2:1, 7:1 and 5:1). The new Citica now offers 2 ratios(6.2:1 and 5:1).

Without a doubt, I believe that the Chronarch 50mg is the best of the 3 we are talking about and since that's the one you are used to you may be disappointed with the Curado and Citica. That Chronarch weighs only 5.9 ounces so when you move up to a 7.4(100s) or a 9.8(200s) ounce reel you are going to notice that extra weight right away.

Tackle Tour offers some in depth reviews of these reels so in case you haven't read them I'll leave you a link. If I were you though, it would be hard for me to get away from the Chronarch 50mg even though the Curado and Citica are both excellent reels.

Thanks craw, I read the tackletour review and they absolutly rave about the Curado 100D, and he actually makes many comparisons to the 50MG in the write up... very helpful.

Oh and I'm only considering the 100 DSV versions.

Thanks again.

Flech, don't know your budget but take alook on Ebay for the Shimano Antares. It is the Japanese domestic version of the Calais. You can get one for around 285 to 295 which is a bargain for this reel. It is a better reel than the Calais.

The Antares looks pretty sweet but it's a little heavier and more expensive than I want right now.

My reel budget is $250 max, so at the moment I'm only looking at the 100DSV's or another 50MG.

Thanks

Flech, I run 4 MG's and 3 Antares right now. I love the lighter reels. Not sure what application you need the new reel for but make that the point on which you base picking up a new reel. I am a die hard jig guy although I love the light stuff. IMHO, The Scorp MG is a great reel but the Antares outshines it for jig fishing. I usually keep 3 jigs rigged so I go with the 3 Ants. I took two 10+'s in the past two months and both were on the Ants. As far as drag is concerned, it is absolutely more solid than the MG's....which are the same as the Chronarch MG. Take a look at it, for the extra 35.00, it might be worth it to wait a little extra.

Hey Earthworm 77 Doesnt the Antares require a special tool to disassemble just as the Calais does?  Have you found that to be a problem when bearings needed lubing?

Flechero if you 've got 250 get what you already have and know, if ain 't broke don 't fix it.

If I had that money I would get me an Alphas Type F, for $190 at GinRinPeche e-bay it 's a steal. The only thing it doesn 't have is a clicking drag star, something that doesn 't bother me, but it does come with 2 bearings in the handle knobs which makes it really smooth, it sits lower on the reel seat and weights 6.2 ounces.

I appreciate the input, guys!  I'm not opposed to another 50MG but since I have 3 of them already, I though it  might be nice to get something else.  It's a size and shape I like... and it's the same size & shape as the 100 size curado and citica according to the tackletour guy.  So my question was what's the difference in the curado and citica in the 100 size, I wasn't able to find a way to compare and the features are not the same in that (100)size.

EW,  The antares is one of the reels I looked at this spring... a sweet reel for sure, but for the price I felt like the better value to me was in the 50MG.  (it fits my wants better)

Sniff, sniff.............hey, I smell bananas through the screen !

Ok my man, here 's the deal....you got 250, right ? well if I had 250 burning a hole in my wallet and knowing that *** has the TDZ 105H in sale for 310 I would chew on my right nut to combat the craving and either save or withdraw from one of my CCs those extra 60 bucks I 'm short and get me a TDZ before they are sold out.

I know the Calais 100 is a really fine piece of machinery because I had one which was sold in order to get me a TDZ custom. I also have the TDZ ( did I mention I have more reels than rods ?..... I like reels ) compared side by side the Calais and the TDZ are very much alike, the Calais is like a Rolls, the TDZ is like a Ferrari.

My middle name was "Chiquita", long before I ever heard of the bait monkey...  I'm not afraid to admit it.  ...lol

Money is not the issue, my budget is an arbitrary number I set based on the fact that there are no reels I want that cost over $250.  If I wanted a $300 or $400 reel I would just buy one.  I have a TD-Z BBS... I just don't like it very much.  None of the TD-Z's feel right in my hand. (but if I got one it would be the 103)

I was ready to buy a curado or citica 100 just to try it out...  but didn't know the differences between the two so that's how this thread started.

Does anyone actually know the difference between the Curado 100DSV and the Citica 100DSV?  So far I have only gotten suggestions of other reels to buy.  ...lol
