Ashboom Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Decided to get the tatula spinning rod (cork grips) and not sure if a medium or medium heavy would be better all purpose rod...need help on how they fish..do they fish heavier or lighter ??? Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted September 25, 2023 Super User Posted September 25, 2023 They're true to their ratings which means they fish heavier compared to rods that typically run lighter than stated. Consider them robust for their rating but not overly beefy. In your earlier posts you started out asking which rod would handle a 3/8oz jig but have since upped it to 1/2oz. Get the MH if that's still the case and you're talking about total weight or a skosh more, but don't expect it to be magnificent with TRDs rigged on a 1/15oz ned head. In a perfect world you'd get both a M and MH and manage well enough between the two. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 The Tatula 7' M F is one of the best all purpose rods ive ever picked up. It will cover just about anything you need a spinning rod to do. The 3/4 rating is a bit optimistic IMO. If you need something heavier go with the MH. 2 Quote
Ashboom Posted September 26, 2023 Author Posted September 26, 2023 So if I wanted to drag 3/8 or 1/2 oz (total weight) jig or worms..the medium tatula would work?? Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 26, 2023 Super User Posted September 26, 2023 Do you have bait Casting rods & reels or is spinning going to be your all around rod? What reel and line do you use? I am not familiar to Daiwa rods and no standard exist for power ratings other then personal opinions comparing apples to oranges. Tom Quote
Ashboom Posted September 26, 2023 Author Posted September 26, 2023 No casting..all spinning rods..already have a heavy tfo professional.. and mh arid-x...will be using braid Quote
KP Duty Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 I'd get the 7' Medium power (1/8-3/4). It has the ideal bait weight range for an all-arounder. The 6'6"M I own is fast and crispy for good hooksets. 1 Quote
badfish79 Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 I had a cork handle tatula 7ft medium spinning rod at one point. It was a medium, but more power than I was expecting. I think it would be good for dragging 3/8 or 1/2oz lure packages. I didnt like how it loaded with things under 1/4oz and close to his rated max. 1 Quote
Ashboom Posted September 26, 2023 Author Posted September 26, 2023 Thats my main concern is the power with a medium..just wanted to make sure it was stout enough for up to 1/2 oz Quote
badfish79 Posted September 26, 2023 Posted September 26, 2023 If you can be patient for a sale in the used section of ALF, the Expride B 7ft medium was almost perfect to me in every way for 3/8 - 1/2oz things. I picked one up for $190ish + tax. I wanted a little lighter power for lighter things, so I sold it to get a medium light, but for that weight range, it was awesome. Quote
Ashboom Posted September 26, 2023 Author Posted September 26, 2023 From everything I've read those expride are really good rods Quote

Great way to describe them. I wouldn’t go up to a MH unless I was fishing jigs with heavy hooks. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 For dropshotting I use the ML 7'0" Tatula rod. For wacky worms, a 7' M Tatula. Anything more than 3/8 oz is going to be thrown on a baitcaster. Quote
thunderblack Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Go with Medium Fast. Its a powerful rod and a great all around spinner. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 27, 2023 Super User Posted September 27, 2023 Medium XF in 6’8” to 7’ and use your MH or H for lure 1/2 oz+. Tom Quote
