Super User Bankbeater Posted September 29, 2023 Super User Posted September 29, 2023 I worry about the wind speed, air temp, and what is on the weather radar. Around here, if the conditions are right the weather can change in a split second. Quote
PaulVE64 Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 I'm fishing for river smallies. Barometric pressure counts for more than wind. Wind will determine how I set up to cast into an area but current trumps wind Quote
pdxfisher Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Out here I only care about wind and direction for safety reasons. The smallmouth bite in all wind conditions. Quote
BFS-Angler75 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Wind for safety, and try to make sure its not going to rain on me. Other than that, I just like to go out and fish regardless. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted September 30, 2023 Super User Posted September 30, 2023 Todays conditions: overcast- generally good. post frontal- generally tough breezy- generally good wind from the north north east- weird and not normal Stable barometer- depends who you talk to recently falling water temp for fall- should turn fish on who knows what I’m going to see, but my wife is away all day so I’m going fishing for probably the last time this year. Archery season is kicked off in earnest so the boat is being put away. 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted September 30, 2023 Super User Posted September 30, 2023 Well as follow up, the fish weren’t chasing moving things. They were definitely on the bottom in 4-15’ of water. They weren’t roaming either. You needed some cover, ideally grass, with deeper water nearby. That said, if you worked for it and put it in front of them they would eat. Nothing picture worthy but I scratched out 6 in a couple hours. All on the rage bug. 1 Quote
Matt Bacola Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 The last couple of times I’ve been out it’s been pretty tough. I’m in Ohio and I feel like the LMB are in a bit of a fall transition funk. It’s been unseasonably warm here and I believe that what’s needed to improve the fishing is a cool down. Water temps on Saturday were 66-71 degrees. If anything, they have gone up a bit since then. High of 84 today, 81 tomorrow, 71 Friday, 56 on Saturday, 54 on Sunday. Although I believe a cool down is what’s needed to improve the fishing, I’m guessing the bass will be shut down for a few days after a change that drastic. Am on the right track? Even more so than the other seasons, I can’t seem to figure out what to expect during the fall transition. I’m thinking what’s needed is for the temps to cool off a bit, but also the bass are going to need some time to adjust? Quote

Fishing from a jon boat is frustrating with winds over 10 mph. From my deck boat , the sides are high so it gets blown around pretty bad too . I also dont go if temps are over 90 or too cold . This week the weather is going to be pleasant and I plan on going at least twice while I still can. This describes my criteria exactly. 1 Quote
