I've been away for a few weeks. Haven't been able to go fishing because we've been too busy preparing for our first child. He was born this morning.

I've come to really enjoy this forum, and I like the internet fishing buddies I've found here. And as such, I wanted to give those that care an update.

I imagine it'll be hard to find much time to go fishing the rest of the year. But the kiddo and wife are more important by far. Can't wait till he's big enough I can take him with me.

He weighed in at 6lbs, 12 Ozs. More than 4 lbs smaller than the biggest born in my family. But I think he's a keeper. ?

Congratulations! I didn't fish much for a long time after my kids were born. I was too busy reading books, playing games, hanging tire swings, putting toys together, learning how to ride a bike, coaching ball teams, going to music recitals, etc. They're older now so I get to fish more. I love to fish, but I wouldn't trade a minute of the time I've had with my kids.

My (unsolicited) advice is to fish if you can, but don't miss the kid stuff. Seeing them experience the joys of life, and making memories with them has been better than catching a PB...at least it has been for me. Congratulations, again!

Momma probably wouldn't approve of you throwing him back

Great, this thread gave me mental imagery of reeling in a baby. Yikes. Never considered that they're born as nice sized bass, and I have 4 of my own.

Congratulations man.

The birth of your first child is one of the greatest events you will have in your life.  My son was born in 1966, I still remember it like it was yesterday.  For the first year or two, your son will be a baby. These years are very important to his development.  He will need lots of love and discipline too.   Don't think he won't remember you in those years.   As a baby, I was raised by my grandfather and I still think of him often.  When he is old enough to hold a fishing rod, take him fishing with you.  My son was my fishing buddy in his youth and I missed him terribly when he left home to start his own family.  My son turned out to be everything I had hoped.  Your little boy will too if you do the same. Congratulations!

Congratulations!!!!    Your kid and any future kids are only young once.   You'll have plenty of time to fish in the future.

Congratulations. I have one that is 4, and another on the way. It's never too early to introduce them to fishing or other activities for which you want them to build a passion.
