I’m a big fan … really enjoy this site immensely.  There are times when I ask myself, “Self, why are there so many basic or repetitive questions in the forums?”  Then I remember finding this site and probably asking the same questions as these folks are asking.  I suspect that we forget that new, and often inexperienced, anglers are constantly joining. To them this is a treasure trove of information, probably overwhelming, so why should they be expected to be any different than I was?  It took me awhile to get a handle on using the SEARCH function … still get some surprising results from that once in awhile.

After considering my own experience I am much more patient and just pass such questions/comments.  In the unlikely event that I feel I can contribute, I take finger in hand and post … a rare occurrence to be sure.  I say let’s give the new, or young, or inexperienced members some slack.  We were all there once.

Reading a lot of these posts, I am wondering if all of the negativity over on the cruise line threads that I follow is impacting all of my social media. It is not great over there and yet I still follow it lol. Just lots of changes and people venting about it.

I want to clarify the mods and the rules thing. The rules work fine and I fully understand why it is done, but the exception is I wish the could make the PM section **** free, but having worked with programmers over the years I know something like that can be super difficult to impossible. I have never had any warnings or points against me so I have been good about following the rules. There was a thing a few years back, I don't remember what it was that I asked Glenn to delete my account. I am glad he didn't because I don't even remember what it was. I know from my daughter that being a mod is a thankless job.

I also have no issues with how the site is moderated. If I could take back anything in my original post, that would be it. I wanted to make it generic and in doing so caused more issues. This is why writing stuff is so difficult, because words can be interpreted many ways we didn't intend. I see it at work all the time with certain people that take stuff out of context that others write and it goes sideways lol.

Winter is coming…?

I haven't noticed a lot of Ned rig/ midwest finesse threads lately, perhaps they are saving them for this winter;)

This forum is my only association with social media as I don't own a computer, don't read a newspaper and the only time the TV is on is football season..... it's called preservation of sanity. ?

your in charge of making things what they are.

I wish I could go back to that. I do have shows I watch on TV, sports, oak island, skinwalker ranch, and a couple of sit coms, but as I get older I find I watch a lot less shows on TV. Unfortunately you tube has filled that void, but I generally watch informational stuff on there about my hobbies while doing other things, so not sure if that counts. I haven't watched national or even local news in over 20 years to try and preserve what sanity I have left;)

It is sad though that the screens have so invaded my life that I hardly read anymore and I used to read 2-3 books a week. Trying to get back to that. I have a lot of great old fishing books I bought last year that I need to read.

Our mods and Glen are what make this place so good. There's also some really good sticks that hang out here, and give helpful advice on bass fishing.                              This spring, I joined a crappie site. I left after two weeks. They had mods, but they didn't do anything. Guys were making rude comments, smarting off, etc all the time. Now  BR is the only place I belong to. It's a great place.

I have not fished since July as well. I am waiting for my new boat to come in. I do feel how you feel about the winter blues right now. I do get bored at times with the site as you have mentioned. It’s just because of how much time is spent here. You also are not engaged in fishing so that makes it tougher to relate.

This is and has been the only fishing site I have been on for years. I hung out on the original riversmallies for a decent amount of time till it shut down. The reboot, I never got into and not sure if it is still around. Still look at walleye central, but since they had an issue I haven't logged back into that site. I don't disagree that it is the best fishing forum I have belonged too.

The only other fishing site I truly enjoyed was the old Bill Dance Message Board. FLAMING did it in. Be glad Bass Resource has strong moderation.

What is flaming?

It might not be social media. You just might be in a funk in general from not fishing. I have lost a lot of ambition and motivation that I am not right now. I’ve been doing the bare minimum with most things. Fishing for me has been the reward after a hard and stressful week of work. Places like BR fill that gap in-between the fishing trips.

it also makes it worse knowing you could be fishing but, other issues are keeping you from it. My big fear is I’m not going to get out till next spring.

My wife had also noted I am much more irritable.  Instead of having a short fuse I have none.

Put in the work get that shoulder healed up for when you’re reeling in the big ones. BR will be here if you need to unplug.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIE SITE!

I consider FB, twitter, and all those site to be social media. I consider Bass Resource to be just like the sandwich shop restaurant I stop at. A few people, well here,  a lot of people, talking about fishing. Where and how they’re catching them, even safely stuff, watch out , around the power line,  a log washed in and so & so lost a prop. Stuff like that,
As far as rules and moderators go …. Ya gotta have rules, without them, it would be anarchy….. even the sandwich shop has them.

You get outta line… she’ll tell ya. “ take it outside, and not just on my dock but, out on the water”

This ain’t social media… it’s a place where people talk about something we’ll all love to do.

I've been around since 2009. I take a break every now and again but not for long. I have learned so much here it's ridiculous.

I differ from most in that I feel like even though a topic has been discussed multiple times over multiple years, I don't mind a bit. Yes, you can usually find the answer through the search function. But this is a discussion board. Ask away! It would be awfully boring if no one asked.

As for the mods. I had an issue once. Once In 14 years. That's pretty much all you need to know about how well run this site is. There's little to no drama,  fairness is the rule, and the one issue I had was resolved if fair order.

The number of folks that are willing to share is incredible.  Honestly, what more can you ask for in a message board?

One other thing. All this is Free! Thank you Glen!
