Hey guys, any of you folks out there own one of these reels. Reason I'm asking is because I bought one several weeks ago. I got the 103HSDF model and I've gotten to fish with it at least a half dozen times so far. Speaking for myself, I absolutely love it. My goal is to get at least one more along with another Curado 100D. Anyway...I'm looking for any feedback on the TD-X models and would like to hear any positive or negative replies. These reels are a little tough on my budget so I'm just trying to find out all I can before I buy several more. Thanks guys.

IMO, great reel.  I have 4 of them, and I love them.  I used to fish all Team Daiwa, but now I have started to migrate to the Quantums.  It is hard to beat the Daiwa though.

I have had the TDX and TDS reels.I liked them alot except for the drag systems. You had to crank the snot out of the drag to get it tight enough so it wouldn't slip when pulling bass out of matted milfoil beds.I didn't buy them new, I didn't care to fish them as well as I do the 3 TD1 reels I have. The TDX series replaced the TD1 & TD2 series reels. :'(Ivan

I have a TD X and love it.  It is just as smooth as any reel in their price.  I have not hear of any  negative with this reel.    No problem with drag either.

Here's a fix for you, if you have ever removed the crank assembly for your X's pull the main drive gear and remove any oil or grease from the drag pad. Daiwa drags are made to be dry.

The drags in your TD1's are massive compared to the drag pads in the X's.

Your right on to say that the X's took the place of the old TD1 and TD2's. The original TDX reels actually showed up on the scene just after the first braids came out. They gave the X's that designation because the gear ratio of the spool and the ratio of the worm gear for the level wind (line carriage), causes the reel to lay the braided lines on the spool in an X pattern. Keeping the line from digging into itself under heavy retrieve pressure.

Tight Lines!!

I used to own a TDX, my only beef is that it 's not a true low profile, it sat high on the reel seat and with my small hands it was uncomfortable to palm. Great reel. Get the supertuned versions always, it costs 10 dolars more than the regular and it 's better, smoother caster.

When I did my research this spring on the tdx supertuned I got very little info. I was looking for a long casting, versatile, into the wind, kind of reel. Raul said it was a good choice. What a great reel. I use the heck out of it. There is a bad case of rash developing on the frame from laying the reel down. All the other reels looks fine, but the tdx. However, the performance of this daiwa is top notch. If it had the smoothness on the retrieve of say a high end shimano, this would be the perfect reel. I probably should get another tdx supertuned unless I find something comparable which I haven't.
