Lund 1875 pro v bass xs Question(s)

I am contemplating upgrading my boat and really like the Lund 1875 pro v bass xs but not sure I want to spend that kind of money but contemplating things. I currently have a 2005 Ranger Reata 180VS which is a fish and ski for when the kids were small but they are grown and really looking for more storage. I currently live in a lake community and we have 2 small lakes and the boat sits on a lift all summer and I fish there but now thinking about going to other bigger lakes in the state (table rock, stockton, ozarks, bull shoals, etc) and while I think the boat would be fine, it handles really well its a little under powered and not sure I have much trust in the engine on a larger lake. My community lakes have a HP rating and for outboards it used to be 115 and that is what is on the back of the boat (mercury optimax 115). We have since been able to get that raised to 150hp for fish and ski's, tournament boats can have larger engines but cannot tow but that is another story. I was contemplating re-powering with a 150 Yamaha or Suzuki since I really do not trust my Mercury Optimax. I know some love or hate them but I do all my own wrenching and I got the wonderful of rebuilding my powerhead when it melted one of my pistons, I assume it was do to one of the injectors which that have fuel and air and just overly complicated thanks to all the emissions policies etc. I've had coil issues etc and with only three cylinders you loose one and you cannot even get on plane, so while its been 6 years since I rebuilt it and I have my injectors serviced now I really just do not trust it in a large lake. That is the reason I was looking at re-powering but then started looking at other boats and really like the Lund 1875 pro-v Bass XS, one of the main draws is just the storage alone, I am really limited in storage now and that is one of the main drivers at looking, not happy with the price tag but thinking about it etc....and folks like @A-Jay have pretty much sold me on one if I go that route, you should get a kick back for sales, lol.

 

TLDR Questions:

-So sorry for the long backstory but one of my questions that I am trying to find out is I think it has been out for a period of time, but it appears you used to be able to get it in a bench configuration and now it appears that they have jump seats vs the bench. I really prefer the bench layout and was wondering if anyone knows if that is still available?

 

-I was looking on lund website and they show a picture of that layout but when I try to build its not obvious to me if you can still choose it or not. My other question is I have a Nissan Frontier and my tow capacity is around 6k and from what I could see I think this would come in around 4k and shouldnt be an issue for the truck to haul.

 

-Opinion on trailer for single launches and loading, do rollers help make that easier any suggestions for configuration besides getting Talons to make things easier for single loading and unloading?

 

Sorry for the long posting just trying to do as much research on the Lund and come up with a configuration that makes the most sense, thanks.

I recommend the 200 HP ProXS for the 1875.

I solo launch & recover my rig and converting from standard carpet bunk to composite bunks

Thanks for the quick replies, the more I look at the boat the more I like it and really cannot find anything close to it. Yeah I kind of prefer the bench vs the newer XS seating since it reduced the back deck somewhat, but that was what I thinking was that they only offered the XS version, even though they still have pictures of the bench version on the website, lol. I also was leaning towards going with a 200HP enging wise, I would just prefer the Yamaha 200SHO but thats just me. The Mercury 200 ProXS appears to be a good engine though, I have not found much to anyone saying otherwise.

 

Thanks for the information about the composite bunks, I think they do offer something like that from the factory, so many options to wade through and figure out but I think if I am going to go with a new boat I really want the 1875. I would like to go with talons on the back, doesnt appear you can get them from the factory so will have to figure that one out also. Maybe the best question would be with all the options that they offer which ones do you think are the ones to have....

Having the Max HP on most any rig will allow the operator

to get the top performance from the hull.

Less HP equals less performance. Not desirable for me on bigger water.  YMMV.

As for 'options', knowing what I needed and why is what drove my decisions.

Thanks again for the reply and taking the time to detail things out, this helps a lot. One of the things I need to wade through and figure out is all the trolling motor options and electronics side of things. Pretty much everything you have called out was what I was leaning towards but need to figure out the trolling motor options and electronics.

 

I tend to lean humminbird also but I have one of the original HDSI 898 units, lol and lots have changed but I need to figure out what I would actually use and benefit me in the boat, lots of options. I know I want a 36v setup, currently have 24v but need to figure out ultrex and all the other options and if I really want to spend the money for live image etc. 

 

If anyone has any thoughts on the current trolling motor options, pros and cons I'm all ears, I need to dig into that and make sure I understand so I can figure out which way to go...

Lund should have tweaked the Predator instead of getting rid of it. I guess they didn't sell enough with the bench seat to make it profitable.

 

OP, You can't go wrong with Lund quality. I ran a 20ft Predator for 10 years, which was the predecessor to the ProV Bass and only offered in the XS layout. It was a larger deeper freeboard hull than the ProV Bass. It had a 2 stroke ProXS so, I can't comment on the 4 stroke. 

 

How much fishing do you plan on doing off the back deck? The front deck is the size of an aircraft carrier and there is plenty of room for more than 1 angler on the front deck. 

 

I would never recommend a roller trailer on a boat that small.

 

As far as the tow vehicle, I always had 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. When you calculated the tow weight did you account for fuel and gear? Does your Frontier have a tow package or is it basic? A trans cooler and upgraded brakes aren't a must but I would highly recommend them especially, if you are going to be towing for any long distances and/or in the mountains. If the trailer is equipped with surge brakes, it needs a 7 pin connector not a 4 pin.

I would personally not want to tow around the Lund Pro V Bass with a Nissan Frontier. As @slonezp and @A-Jay have already indicated, a full size truck would be a much better option.

Lunds website says the Pro V Bass towing weight is 2715 pounds. That’s the boat completely empty, a single axle trailer, and a 115 HP Pro XS mercury outboard.

A 200 Hp outboard is going to weigh significantly more. Then add fuel to the gas tank, fishing tackle, bow mount, talons, and whatever other stuff you normally haul around in a boat. Wouldn’t be hard to imagine that rig reaching 5,000 pounds or more. Doesn’t leave much room for error with a Nissan Frontier as a towing vehicle.

I would suggest you thoroughly search your area for "driving distance" to a factory-authorized Yamaha service center.  In my area I have several Mercury service centers to choose from but a Yamaha place is non-existent.

Once I did more reading I figured out rollers weren't the best option for the boat, they have lots of options and I've only had bunks but I think @A-Jaymentioning the plastic bunks is a good suggestion and added that on the list. They do have an option for plastic bunks.

So, all that is left is convincing yourself to buy a boat that costs double what the truck cost...LOL It's not that difficult. 

 

Honestly, you can't go wrong with Lund quality. Full disclosure, I had a horrendous time getting warranty work done. It was more of a dealer issue than Lund and eventually Lund got involved at the end and made everything right. The warranty issue was purely cosmetic and had nothing to do with the structural integrity of the boat.

Yeah I understand about the dealerships, I tend to wrench myself unless something is under warranty but I understand that Merc has more dealerships. I'd rather repair myself so really as long as I can get parts its a push unless something happens on a lake etc, but I agree Mercury has more locations for sure.

 

Engine mfg are a potato, POTATO thing, or Ford vs Chevy etc...I currently have an optimax and have done a lot of work on it, not a fan. But most of that complicated beast was due to the emissions standards vs what they normally would have done. I'ts a ticking time bomb with that compressor, I have lots of picks when I got to rebuild the powerhead when it melted one of my pistons (I'll attach one, if you want to see more just let me know, tore it down all the way to the block, machined and rebuilt).  I was originally going to re-power my current boat but thinking of doing this instead. I'm not totally against the mercury but if I had my choice I can assure you I would go with a yamaha sho engine instead, and it would be more expensive. I just feel they are better engines, but again that's just me.

Yeah you must have not priced trucks lately, I have a 2023 Frontier pro 4x and I can assure you the boat will not be 2x the price, inflation or whatever is going on everything is stupid price these days. If I go down this route it will be more expensive than the truck but if its 2x then it probably wont happen, lol.

 

We looked at full size trucks but it would not fit in the garage, and we live on a sloped driveway that makes getting in and out not so much fun, just to big for day to day stuff. I'm not a truck guy, so its really my wife daily driver. I use it when I need to tow my boat and/or motorcycles and other truck stuff.

 

What I really need help figuring out is all the trolling motor options, I know I want 36v setup but sheesh there are a lot of options these days. Currently have a 24v setup but its basic compared to what is out there these days. Need to read and figure out what all the options are and what do I really want, same goes for electronics.

You should be able to get a Honda from the factory. It's a bullet proof motor. Finding someone to work on it is another story.

I found a honda place near me, actually its a tohatsu service center but every 150hp and up Tohatsu is just a rebadged honda. I'm actually very familiar with the engine in the honda since I've owned one, is a 2.4l v4 pretty close to what is in the cars, pretty good little engine but when I priced them for my re-power they are very proud of the engines, pretty pricey.  But again, I will be the one working on it unless its under warranty, so as long as I get the parts its really not an issue.

I ran circa 2013 Birds and Minn Kota iPilot Link. A lot of technology  has happened with electronics since I sold the boat 2 years ago. 

Whatever you get with electronics will be obsolete the day you purchase it.

Yup the honda engines are pretty much the same as what is in the cars, looks like the honda 200hp is a v6. Not all of the 200hp engines are 6cylinders these days except the Merc (non proxs) and Yamaha SHO, the standard Yamaha and Suzuki are 4cylinders and the Proxs is an 8cylinder.

My next rig will more than likely be a Yammie paired up with Garmin electronics. I'm not discounting Merc and Birds as I believe they are a fantastic combo.

Here are the trolling motor options, what I am not sure about is the 2 36v ultrex options, not sure I know what the difference is, says one is a MSI ipilot link and the other one says MSI ipilot link. Pretty sure the ulterx is the preferred unit. Not sure what the lowrance ghost is either...

I see one with MSI (which is built-in Mega-Side Imaging sonar transducer) linkable with Lowrance units, the other says US2 (which is Universal Sonar 2 - basically linkable with standard 2D and Downscan units)

 

The Ghost is from Lowrance itself - completely compatable with all upper Lowrance sonars.

 

Personally I'd like to have a Garmin Force TM option...I prefer Garmin sonars to Lowrance and Garmin and Minn Kota don't play well together...much less Garmin and Lowrance.

I can say that I am very happy with my 2022 1875 Lund Pro V bass XS.   I did communicate with A-Jay and he really motivated me that this was the right boat for me.

My wife and two grown daughters will often go out in the boat so I loved the extra seating.  This is what really pushed me towards this boat in the first place.  It was the only bass boat with this seating.  I also love it for storing stuff in the deck area (net, cooler, Butt seat, etc).  The back deck is still plenty big.  I have co anglers in my boat and I often fish off the back deck while spot locked or Taloned down.  It works amazing.  
The storage is sick.  Almost too much.  I have to remind myself to leave some things home.  I, like AJay, purchased my boat from the dealer all rigged up and ready to go.  It has been flawless for 2 seasons now.  I have no regrets at all.  I get so many compliments on the boat and try to take very good care of it.   Not a scratch on it yet.  Gets washed often and sprayed down with Hot Sauce or Slick Mist.

With all the good stuff that you post, and seeing all that organization and planning, you can’t pass anything off on luck my friend!!   My Lund needs to get north this fall to find some Brown fish.  Needs some diffferent slime in the boat.  Haven’t caught one yet this season.  Not acceptable.

Love my PVB 1875XS. Your Nissan Frontier should be able to tow it. I wish I could fit a 2075 in my garage, and also I wish I had the padded deck.

Interesting, I sold my Ranger Reata and bought a Lund Pro-V Bass 1875. I went from a fishnski “jack of all trades” boat to a pure fishing platform with the Lund. A major upgrade for me as I was much more fishing focused and always somewhat frustrated with the Ranger. 
 

For what it’s worth, I had a 150 hp on my PVB and never felt inadequate. The money savings allowed me to buy some kick-ass electronics while still being able to go 50 mph if I needed to (rarely ever went that fast, and never wanted to go faster). 
 

I also towed my PVB with a Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 rated to tow 6400 pounds. I towed it from Minnesota to Arkansas to Rainy Lake in Canada and never felt under-powered. 
 

The best 2 things about the Lund are the XS seating and the plethora of storage.
