my sister is always late.  always.

i have gotten to the point i dont give a poop.  i will start dinner without her.  big group dinners. she always gets mad we didnt wait.

eating out, with dinner reservations it is a big problem and i avoid it by not including her.

Same here. I'm youngest of 5 - three girls, two boys. One of my

sisters is *always* late.

I do prefer people show up on time, preferably *before* on time

in my line of work (IT). But I am aware of a recent generation that

has a different perception of time. 5-10 min late is no big deal to

them. Not like we can change them to our point of view, it seems

to be a generational thing. ?‍♂️ I try not to sweat over it too much,

though I have taught my sons to be on-time or early. They are

good...for the most part.

I was the same way when I worked IT.

Wife accuses me of running on 'Wizard Standard Time' - I always try to be 10-15 minutes early for any appointment, meeting, etc.

My ol' lady will be late for her own funeral. If we have somewhere to go, I tell her we need to be there an hour before the event begins. There's a 50% chance we will make it there on time.

I'm early for everything. My store opens at 7am. I'm generally there by 6:30. Not a week goes by when I don't have customers waiting outside when I pull up at 6:30. Some will sit in their trucks until I open and some will come right in after I shut off the alarm. Doesn't matter to me one bit. They put food on my table. My one employee will sit in his car in the parking lot until 10 minutes to 7. He comes in and makes/eats his breakfast and doesn't start "working" until 7am. Fine by me, his hours are 7-4and he gets paid for his hours worked. He will not get paid for coming in early but will get paid for staying late. He will stay late if he has to.

Off topic. A huge chunk of my salary is commission based. I answer text messages and emails before and after hours, on weekends and when I'm off or on vacation. I don't have to. I am not required to. The way I look at it is every call, text, or email I do not respond to is taking food off my table.

“Punctuality is the politeness of kings.” - Louis XVIII

He was right. I am passionate about punctuality. Being on time shows honor, being late shows lack of personal discipline and dishonor for those around you.

My boss is a minimum of 2 hours late to everything and usually more like 4+ hours. His wife said he was 3 hours late to their first date.

half hour late would be a blessing

She waited 3 hours for him to show up and he's the loser?

One of my favorite quotes from a River Runs through it, by Norman Maclean.

Yea yea I didn't get in until late. Paul:  Well, I didn't get in at all but I was here.  Norman:  Neil. Paul:  Neil, in Montana there are three things we are never late for; church, work, and fishing.

My mother doesn't even know who Norman Maclean is, and hasn't read or seen the movie A River Runs through it, and isn't from Montana, but I am quite certain, he was plagiarizing her when he wrote the book.  I heard and was required to live those exact words many times before I ever read A River Runs Through It.

I am never late for anything, but rest assured, if I am late for fishing, it is because I am being on time for my funeral and if someone else shows up late for fishing, they better have been kept late at church, because even god may not be able help them if I miss the morning bite.

Oboy, this is a pet peeve of mine.

Constantly late is a form of disrespect and something that rattles my cage.

Everyone I deal with in life is always early, including the wife but my long time fishing partner needs a 30 minute buffer on the back side of time ?.

i can't agree strongly enough that  the 3 things you are never late for is church, work, and fishing.

when i was young, i was late all the time.  it was the wives, 99% of the time.

one of them would insist on having the car most days, we only had one.  getting her and the baby out of the house  every day by 5 am was just impossible for me to accomplish.

the other one,  she made me late every day because... well,  it wasn't for the car, that's all i can say. ?

at some point i decided enough was enough. being late always drove me nuts, and for decades now, i refuse to let anything get in the way. if i'm late, there was a legit problem

It’s extremely inefficient to be 15-30 minutes early for everything. I learned that as I became increasingly busy in work and home life.

You could be using that time for something else.

I used to be a 15-30 minutes early guy. Then I realized I was wasting hours of my life every month and in some instances it’s not feasible.

I started shooting for exactly on time about 8 years ago.

I’m now occasionally 1-5 minutes late, but not usually and not often, and when I can, I always inform the other parties and never to occasions where I am the limiting factor.

I was raised to believe that being late is a bad reflection of your character.  It also looks bad to customers when the boss is 10 to 15 minutes late for every meeting.

When I was at the Sheriff's Dept, we lived by the saying, "If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late." Roll call started on time the door  was closed. No one interrupted roll call.

I was always under the impression that my time to start work was when I was actually working not just walking in the door.  The only reason I am late to something is if it is an emergency.  I have kids and they know the deal, and neither of them like to be late to anything.

To me it is a respect thing. If we have an agreement to meet at a certain time and you are late you are telling me that whatever you were doing is more important than what we had planned.  Now this may be the case but this should not be the norm.  My sister and her family and parents are always late and I don't even care because she lives 300 miles away and I don't schedule around their needs and wants.  I let them know what is going on and that is how it goes.  If they make it, great if not, oh well.  Time is limited and I am not gonna sit around waiting for someone to meet me who said they were going to at a certain time.

In the service, my wife and I both worked for a person who was so late to every meeting HE scheduled, it was laughable.  After a year of this, I started leaving these deals after 5 minutes of waiting. There would be 50 other humans just sitting there buring daylight.  What was even more rich is that this senoir member chose to question and even "Counsel" me as to my absence.

My responses were not really good career moves, but they felt good.
