SteveKickinBass Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Hi, I just picked up Team Daiwa's Tough & Light Frog Rod and I cannot decide what bait-caster to get to put on it. I've looked at the Curado, Quantum Tour Edition PT, Viento, and Fuego...What rigs and/or set-ups are you guys using, or what bait-casters have you had success with and recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Quote
castaway Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I use a Extreme flipping stick with a Daiwa CVZ Millionaire 253A reel and 30 lb Tuf Line braid. The Daiwa magnetic system is great for throwing frogs, I use a scum frog trophy series frog which weighs 5/8 oz and will cast farther than I like for frogs in the heavy slop.Imho, get what you can afford,I bought the Millionaire off from ebay for $92.00 shipped.I have bought 2 more since at $100 each.I think they were replaced by the Luna reel series, but any higher end Daiwa has the same magnetic system that makes it a great froggin reel. ;D Ivan Quote
Craw Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Nice rod, I sampled one of those on my last trip to BPS. Lots of great reels out there to choose from. When I was testing that rod I paired it up with a Team Daiwa TD-X 103HSDF. It was a perfect fit I thought. Look over a TD-X next time you get the chance. I put one on every model "Tough and Light" and "Team Daiwa-S" when I was shopping. It's like they built those rods specifically for a TD-X. Quote
lubina Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I have the Quantum Tour Burner for almost a year now and have been performed very well, smooth, pretty much backlash free but is haevy. On my frog set I have a Daiwa TD-Z. If I would have another frog combo, I'll be considering the Abu Garcia Revo SX and STX. Quote
Lightninrod Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 For strength and smoothness, this one can't be beat. Dan Quote
Guest avid Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 It's always hard to argue with a lightning rod choice. This time is no different. The antares just may be the perfect reel for this application. But it is a little on the pricey side. I use the Daiwa Fuego for this king of work and it is also very strong and smooth, although not an antares, it is still a high end reel that you should be happy with. Quote
mike bat Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 yea i do some froggin,, and its a blast... the olny advice i can give you on a reel .... is get the fastest reel you can find there are a few options quantam burner, the new cu in the 7;0 and i believe abu has a new revo in the burner speeds .... this last season i used my chronarch 101 and it did the trick but i did loose a few fish .... i just think that burner reel will help you keep control of the the bass .... also the 2 biggest bass i caught last season came on my frog rod ;D Quote
