Hi, I am flipping creature baits in hydrilla lake and wanted to see what size weight I should be using?  I like to try and get the prawns or worms near the bottom of the lake.  Depth for this area is 4 feet to 10 feet.

A brick will "punch" through hydrilla.   However, there is a point where the sinker's weight will turn fish off.   I find the maximum weight to be 3/4 or 1 oz at the most.   What I do is look for small holes in the hydrilla that I can pitch to.  Light will stream down those holes where bass often wait in ambush.  Sometimes you have to jiggle the bait to get it to drop through.  I find this works much better than trying to crash through hydrilla with a big weight.

if he is punching, i start with a 1oz.  if it slips easy, i drop to a .75oz.  more often than not, i have to go to a 1.5oz.  sucks the life out of my elbows and shoulder.

Depending on how thick the hydrilla is I start with 1/2 oz & move up as necessary.

Generally I will have 2 rods on deck, 1 with 1/2 & 1 with 3/4. Some instances it maybe 3/4-1 oz.
