Was at TD earlier today and got my hands on a Bates Hundo.  This thing was unreal.  They're tiny, makes a Met look big and it uses a 1pc solid AL frame and @ 5oz it feels like nothing in you're hand.  The build quality was impressive as well.  Didnt hear of this company until a couple weeks ago and now Im tempted to check one out.

It's interesting. Unconventional brake.

Thanks for posting the vid.  Its a neat little reel.  Couldn't believe the size and weight, it was next to a Tatula 70 and it made the 70 look big.  I was curious about the brakes, but I had spent 2hr in the store and a whole lot of money.  As I was checking out, a guy I know who works there was like, "look at what we just got in."  I was in there 2hrs, had spent a whole lot of money and I had a tide to catch, so I didn't get to ask too many questions.  They had the raw frames on display w/o the side plate, it actually looks similar to a Met.

It’s always good to have another option for the brand name you want on your Doyo reel.

I'm curious how much the Hundo actually weighs. I have a hard time believing they can get a reel with a substantial aluminum frame to weigh 5 oz. Maybe they mean 5.9 oz? I know selling stuff is all about hype and advertising these days but some of us still appreciate honesty when is comes to facts (how much it weighs, where it is made, what is it made out of, etc).

This reel is definitely intriguing. If the inductor-type braking system is up to scratch, there's a lot to like if you're reel nerd. Dual bearing supported pinion and a free-floating spool is nice. Machined metal frame and what looks like cast metal side plates is nice. I imagine they can keep the tolerances quite tight. I'm sure they can if they wish to. It's ticking a lot of wish list boxes. It's what I'd make if I had the ambition. We'll see. Someone on YT will probably get their hands on one and we'll get the scoop eventually.

I’ve wanted one for a while, but they’re spendy for a reel not named Shimano or Daiwa.

My guess was 4 and change in the store, its a legit 5, it literally feels like an Alde 50 in hand, but more solid.

I would laugh if it didn't have a single doyo part in it. Thank God it has no Diadwa or Shimano parts lol !!!!!

I know old post.

I ordered the Bates Hundo today from TW 20% email Dale. Price dropped down to $300 before tax.

I'm hoping to have it by end of this week. I'll weigh the Hundo and find out if the claim to 5oz is for real.

The Hundo has intrigued me since I heard of it after last summer. I wonder if this reel with ne a Shimano Metanium killer. I have that reel and it is a masterpiece of fishable art.

Its a legit weight.  I was floored when I picked it up.  I dont think its a metanium killer, but Aldebaran on the other hand?  It actually feels like a mini metanium which is hard to believe because the mets are so small, but this thing makes a 70 look big and feel heavy.  I was checking out at TD when the guy said, "hold on you have to see this" and put it in my hand.  They had the raw machined frame too as promo and it was impossibly light, but one solid piece AL.  The only reason I didn't buy it is because it was the last 1 they had and it was a LH model.  Also I blew my planned budget x2.

I just got my Hundo, left hand, 7.1 gear ratio today. I'll post about it next couple days. It's crazy light and work of fishing art!
