learned something new today. rod sleeves in the back of pickup will suck off.

i fished today.  rods go in the truck with me lovingly, but i had to pick up a friend to drive us to his bass boat.  no way, i make him ride in back while my rods ride shotgun  , since it is his bassboat.   so i took them in the back, and we drove to the water at Dark-thirty.  i got there and was missing some of my cheaper, rod sleeves. the ones without the strap. DUH!!!  hahahha..

 

lesson learned.  i put a bungee strap around the entire pile on the ride home.  no issues.  however, i forgot all the about the loss, when i realized i lost ONE of my new Simms sun gloves.  GRRRRR!!!  that one hurt, and now one of my hands is brown, and the other is light tan!!  DUHx2.

A few years ago I put 10 of my rods in the back of my buddies boat, with the tips pointed towards the rear of the boat. When we got to our destination I had 0 rod sleeves left. 

 

I learned this lesson as well!

When traveling I always put my rods, with reels attached in the bed of my truck (8') bed. Never used sleeves on any of my rods. Never had any damage to my rods or reels.

I’ve had that happen in a guy’s boat.  Now I use velcro.

I had a rod in the back of a truck with the rod tip forward once.  After I hard, unexpected brake, the rod flew forward and broke the tip off.  I now put them butt forward.

One can't tell a man something doesn't work when it has clearly worked for him, but I do believe you have been lucky. Even light bouncing and the small, continuous vibrations can damage blanks and guides.

i have that Rod-Mule transportation system i will use next time.  hard to think straight at 2:00 AM.

You may be right, in that I've been lucky.

Last summer I had my rods (minus reels) in a canoe in the bed of my truck.  Upon arriving home, canoe was still there, but NO RODS. I was bummed.  But hey, good excuse to pick up new rods for the next 20 years.

I lay the butts in the truck and strap the tips to the corner with the tips sticking up.

I lost a couple of rod sleeves the same way….don’t have a solution other than to leave them off in this situation.
