A medium action rod will work its just not going to have the same ceel esp on the really light stuff. Casting sistance can be sacrificed as well. For me the bigger thing is the faster action the better coupled with 10lb braid. Especially hopping in and around rocks the feel is so important to be able to hop over rocks and feel light bites.  A medium action rod will work with 1/8oz and up just fine. Lighter than that gets tough to cast and feel but it can be done.

You need a lighter rod to get enough load to throw a 1/16th oz hair jig.  Medium usually doesn’t cut it…

Yes, i will say if its a marabou jig and you slip a piece of senko on it will help, but yes, anything under 1/8oz is tough. I had a zonker craw on the other day in 3/32 and with the wind it was difficult to throw on my ML. Hair is so much different than plastic on the same size head.

I have a 7 ft 6 medium fast spinning rod with 6 lb mono . In the river I use 1/8 ounce jigs Black or brown. Straight out and straight back , steady retrieve. I like Jimmys Ds River bugs.

Never bought those but I've taken a-lot of inspiration from his ties.

Caught several with the marabou last night

I reckon those cheap fuzzy crappie jigs one can get at BPS will catch just about anything. They look real good in the water for what they cost, at least.
