koko36265 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Has anyone tried these new hooks.... I saw them while I was looking for some Fat Ika's at a local tackle shop... They are not cheap by no means, I believe they were $4.50 for 5 hooks.....Would these be any better for Fat Ika's that standard EWG hooks? http://www.gamakatsu.com/new_products/new_skipgap.htm Quote
kms399 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I wasn't all that impressed with them but I have only used them a couple times i am sure a few people here will like them. Quote
scbassin Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I use them but I have not on a Fat Ika yet. I use them when I throw weightless baits, toads, senko's etc. They do hold the bait on the hook better. I think I paid $3.25 for 5 though. Quote
koko36265 Posted August 25, 2007 Author Posted August 25, 2007 They might have been cheaper..... But I think the 5/0 one's were around that price... Still they are high priced for hooks..... Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 25, 2007 Super User Posted August 25, 2007 I have been using the skip gap hooks occasionaly since they first came out and they work great for 4 and 5 in Senkos and lizards but I don't care for them with Fat Ikas. My favorite hook for the Fat Ika is either a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu or a 5/0 G-Lock Gamakatsu. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=54754&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults The price you quoted is about double or what I usually pay for them. I think a pay around $2.50 for a 5 pack. Quote
links_man2 Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Like others, I really like them and the way they hold the bait on. BPS sells them for $2.99 for pack of 5. I have to get them there since no one locally has started carrying them. Quote
Bass XL Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I LOVE THEM...they do exactly what they say Quote
wagn Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 i bought them because i thought they might be good for the fat ikas. They just don't work for me. I keep missing hooksets with these hooks. I don't think they let the bait push down out of the way enough. I'd recommend sticking with the regular wide gaps Quote
cdabelow Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 I just bough a pack to try. I know a few people who swear by them. They dont look like the gap is hardly wide enough to fish the IKA. But I'm just saying it I could be wrong. I got my first pack of Fat Ika this week and all it done is Rain and rain and rain. If it is still coming down tomorrow rain or shine i'm going. I have to try my new bait the suspence is killing me. Quote
