Schaefer Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I've been looking to buy a new spinning rod for bass fishing, but I need it to be for all around tackle (spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, soft plastics etc). It has to be a 2-piece unfortunately because it has to fit in the car trunk, and it has to be somwhere around the $100 or less price range. The rods I,ve found so far are: St Croix Pemier, Okuma Monterra, Shimano Compre and Clarus. Anyone have any opinions on these rods, and possibly some other suggestions?, I would also like to know whether to get 6'6" or a 7' rod? :-? Quote
Chug Bug Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I feel you. I don't have dozens of set-ups for specific applications either. I don't own any spinning gear, so I can't get specific, but I really like All Star rods. Made in USA and have several different price points. Welcome to the board by the way. Quote
Chug Bug Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I'm sorry, I just noticed you needed two-piece. I have no experience at all with those. You can't just throw the rod between the front seats with the tip at the rear window? Quote
Schaefer Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 It's very possible but, I would rather not risk breaking it fitting it in and taking it out of the car all the time. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted November 7, 2006 Super User Posted November 7, 2006 it's more likely to get busted in the trunk where you forget about it.get a 1 piece and just be carefull with it,i drive a hyundai accent and fit rods up to 6-10 in it with no problem. Quote
Syfer420 Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 It's very possible but, I would rather not risk breaking it fitting it in and taking it out of the car all the time. as long as your carefull thats not an issue, i have a 6'6 peice of crap rod and i stuff it in the back seat of a 90's toyota corolla. I had another rod that lenth, also a peice of crap, eagle claw i believe and it fit fine Quote
Schaefer Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 I will probably eventualy get a 1-piece, but I do need a 2 piece for traveling purposes. I go to my Girlfriends families cottage every year and it would be very difficult to cram a 1 piece into a van packed from side-to-side top-to-bottom with luggage and such, theres only room for us to sit basicaly. Hawgin Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I have a St. Croix Premier spinning rod and I like it quite a bit. I know alot of people like the Shimano rods, but I've personally never used them. Quote
toothdoc Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I have 3 St. Croix Premier spinning rods. They are all one piece and great rods for the money. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted November 7, 2006 Super User Posted November 7, 2006 I like the BPS Extreme rods. They have quite a variety available in 2-piece... 6' M 6'6" M 6'6" MH 7' M 7' MH are all available in 2-piece, and they're currently on sale for $69. I have the 7' MH paired with a Stradic 2500 and I use it as my senko/fluke/light t-rig rod and I love it. Quote
HPBB Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Try Gander Mountain's "Guide series" I have a 6'6" MH 2 piece spinning rod. It is a good allaround rod. It runs about $50. I don't buy 2 piece anymore, but I understand why you need one. this was bought for me as a gift. Its a good rod. Quote

If so just get a plano plane tube and roll with that and some tie down straps... I have ONE two piece pole a cabela tourney special or something like that... but I don't use it anymore I only use 1 piece poles... and that is how I move them around when I have to go with others... otherwise what I do is lay down my passenger seat all the way back and put my poles in there... I have no problem with 7ft poles that way... if I have one other person and I can't do that then I will lay down my back seat and put the tips between me and the passenger... I don't like doing it that way.. but you do what you have to do sometimes... good luck AL Quote
Schaefer Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 I actualy havent paid attention to whether or not it had a roof rack, next time I visit my GF ill take a look. I do have a BPS about 1 1/2 hour away, but i rarely go there so BPS rods are kind of out of the question, and Im not a big fan of ordering rods online. Whe I do go there again I will take a look at the ones you have mentioned. I was wondering what kind of suggestion of the Action, Power, and Length of the rod to get for general all around bass fishing?? Quote
