Functional Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Booked our 5year anniversary trip for 3 days in Charleston SC for mid October. Neither of us have been there, we are driving so we'll have a car. We aren't staying right in the middle of the hot spot area but we'll be 5-10min outside of it. Any recommendations on must do things or places to eat? My wife is kind of looking for one good ghost tour and we do plan to hit the aquarium. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted September 5, 2023 Super User Posted September 5, 2023 The Shelter in Mt. Pleasant is a great place to dine. Best fried shrimp I’ve ever had. Page’s Okra Grill is great for lunch and the Bloody Marys are awesome. Quote
Ppennin986 Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Sticky fingers rib house best ribs I’ve ever had The aquarium is really cool Patriots point used to be cool haven’t been there in awhile but the USS Yorktown is on display there Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted September 5, 2023 Global Moderator Posted September 5, 2023 Good time of year to fish there, the shrimp come shallow and everything else is with em Quote
Junger Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 Take a horse and carriage ride that'll take you through South of Broad, you'll see amazing houses and some of the history. Husk is a Charleston staple. Hank's Seafood is an upscale seafood place. If it's a nice night out, check out the rooftop bar at the Vendue Inn. I like staying in the French Quarter because of the lively nightlife and it's just close to everything. Definitely do a ghost tour! Quote
Functional Posted October 10, 2023 Author Posted October 10, 2023 Well to sum up the trip, appreciate the advice! We did the ghost tour on the USS Yorktown. Surprisingly that was my wife's pick and she was uninterested in the ghosts but really loved the history stories the guy was telling. Bit of a surprise to herself and to me so next time she wants to hit the carrier for the history tour through all their displays. We went to the aquarium which was nice. Chatted up a worker there and got quite a bit of really interesting information on feedings and some of the things they do behind the scenes. Spent almost 30-45 minutes talking with him. Their sea turtle hospital display is really cool. If you are into the rescue, recovery and rehab of animals that alone would be a reason to go. Other than that we walked around and explored. Ate lunch at the rooftop Vendu and NY City Pizza (close, but not perfect, best I've had in the south though). Had dinner at Poogans porch and prohibition. Forgot the last place we ate but all in all we didnt have any bad food. Tried a few ice cream places also that didnt dissapoint. Surprisingly driving into the market area and finding parking was cake. I was stressing a bit about that from my experiences navigating NY cities. Looked at fishing charters but it was more than we were looking to spend for just the 2 of us it would have been near 400-500 for 4 hours. Well likely go back with another couple next time and they like fishing, should make it more reasonable for all of us. We will absolutely be back. Still plenty to see. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 10, 2023 Global Moderator Posted October 10, 2023 My buddy was just there in Edisto and caught nice flounder and redfish bank fishing, save your cash and you can make it happen in October . I paid a guide way too much out of Charleston in October and we caught a couple two pounders, gut punch Quote
