corey90 Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 do you catch more fish or having fun pulling birdnest the whole time. im just curious how many people blaze one and fish 2
Super User A-Jay Posted August 30, 2023 Super User Posted August 30, 2023 I do not partake. But whoever put out the local forecast today was most likely hitting the hash pipe pretty hard. A-Jay 1 1 13
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted August 30, 2023 Super User Posted August 30, 2023 i dont partake. Asthma prevents it. i suppose i could eat a dolled up rice krispy treat or something, but i never trust the dosage of an edible.  but my one friend is darn near the third unsung member of cheech and chong. he never backlashes because he is a dork and only fishes spinning, and he only trolls. he does however get into a bait changing frenzy. i can tell he smoked by all the baits he accumulates in the storage bin of his kayak.   3
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted August 30, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted August 30, 2023 I live in a state where it's legal, and DUI laws apply to boating the same as driving, fyi. So nobody I know partakes while fishing.  btw - I've never tried the stuff. No, really! It's never interested me. 4
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted August 30, 2023 Global Moderator Posted August 30, 2023 I donât do it due to mandatory DOT random drug screens. Even if I could I wouldnât. I become slower than a sloth and eat half cooked frozen pizzas because time goes by so slooooow. At least it did 20 years ago. ? 7
Woody B Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Disclaimer, I don't mind what anyone does as long as it doesn't effect me or my family.   It isn't legal here(locally) but it isn't legal anywhere since it's against federal law.  I've used cannabis (and other things) in the past but haven't in decades.  I'm better at EVERYTHING I do without it or any other mind altering substances.   I'm a musician. Many musicians believe they play better "stoned" It simply isn't true. My best example is to watch Stevie Ray Vaughan's Austin City Limits show from 1983, then, after you marvel at his talent, watch the one from 1989 when he was clean and sober.  2
Kirtley Howe Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 I consider myself to be barely capable when I am clean and sober. I don't think i could, or would want to, try to do anything stoned....and that includes just sitting on my couch. Hard pass for me. 3
cheezyridr Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 now that it's legal, i rarely blaze up. now that i'm an old guy, it mostly just makes me want to take a nap. i don't need weed for that, i can nap any time, at will. hahahaha when i was a younger man, my buddies and i had a tradition that you couldn't blaze up until you caught a fish over 12".  for me, the fun was in being able to tease whoever still hadn't caught one yet. "mmmm boy, this sure is tasty, too bad you can't have none yet..." i don't think it affected my casting any, but it did help me concentrate like all get-out. 2
Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 31, 2023 Super User Posted August 31, 2023 âMan! I think these bass are staring at meâ They must know Iâm stoned! Stop staring! Holy crap, theyâre gonna rat me out! What if I hook one and it asks me to let it go? How did I get in this boat? What lake is this? Why is that bass STARING at me??? 6
jbmaine Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 Our state is pot friendly but haven't been stoned since around 1970. 1
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 31, 2023 Super User Posted August 31, 2023 Our state just got on the 'legal cannabis' train - won't affect me. Tried it back in college in the late 70s - all it did was give me a headache. 1
Super User Bird Posted August 31, 2023 Super User Posted August 31, 2023 Heck I've never drank a beer while bass fishing. Never smoked a cigarette but did try weed at a friend's house about 20 years ago and made me vomit ?. Â Can't imagine being up on plane while partaking in a mind alternating substance..... not this guy. 3
Super User A-Jay Posted August 31, 2023 Super User Posted August 31, 2023 Spliffs are making a come back. You heard it here first. ? A-Jay  1 3
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 31, 2023 Super User Posted August 31, 2023 I tried it 2-3 times in the early 80s, never when fishing though. The first time  I tried it was home grown by my coworker. I was working on the farm and afterwards I lost control of the tractor and ran over a big blueberry bush I had to pay for out of my meager check, laughing the whole timeâĤ Hard pass for me too. I need to keep what few brain cells I have left !? 1
Woody B Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 I'll tell a little more about my past, with my disclaimer from earlier that whatever anyone wants to do is fine with me, as long as it doesn't effect me or my family.  I smoked weed (and occasionally used other "stuff") pretty much every day from the time I was 15 until I was 25.  I decided with quit weed, and everything thing else after getting a random drug test at a NHRA National Event(race). I passed somehow. It's my belief they didn't want anyone to fail.  I had money, reputation ect at stake so I decided to quit. A good friend of mine (16 years older than me) was always talking about potheads, and how bad smoking pot was.   Fast forward ~15 years I told him I used to smoke pot every day. He said "I know, and I know when you quit".  I asked when did I quit and how did he know. He said "you quit in May 1989. I know because you got smarter and sharper soon after that."  He said when I was using I always seemed like my mind was in a fog.  I started winning more races after I quit, but I never smoked any until after that day's racing was over.   I'm sure some people "sometimes" perform better at various activities due to lack of anxiety if they're "lighting up".  I promise everyone is better at whatever (except maybe eating doritos) without it, if they can just get over whatever jitters they have when clean and sober.  2
Super User slonezp Posted September 1, 2023 Super User Posted September 1, 2023 Legal in IL. I don't smoke. I invest and my pot stock went up 25% today. 2
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted September 1, 2023 Super User Posted September 1, 2023 @Woody B  interesting story.  I was pretty straight as a young person.   My friends smoked and I watched it do weird things. 1
Susky River Rat Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 It so not legal here yet but, I assume it will be in the next 5 years or so. It is legal with a medical card. I smoked in my late teens early 20s realized It would be hard to get a good job. I stopped. I know plenty of people who burn one while fishing. I do not. Doesnât even interest me. The susky is dangerous enough without changing your mental state.  I also am not against it being legalized. I am against all the lies of someone functioning better on it. Or the itâs weed I canât be addicted. I know people who would scrape pennies together to get a bag of weed but, not have money to buy a bag of senkos. 1
throttleplate Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 I was a pot head in high school, joined the military in 1980Â and everyone i was stationed with in Jacksonville naval air station was smoking pot. So as a dumb %%% i smoked also. On thanksgiving day in 1980 i was at a petty officer 1st class e-6 house and he gave me his car keys to go to base and pick up some more beer. Well they had a car search entering the gates that day and they pulld me over and searched his car and unknwn to me he had a joint in the ashtray and so i got busted for it and went to captains mass. I never ratted out the e-6 whose car it was. The NCIS tried hard to get me to give up whose joint it was but i held firm. My career as a Seabee went well after that, the bust woke me up and i proved to myself and my command i was a very productive and motivated individual. In 1980 and there after the military started doing random drug testing and many of my close friends got busted. My pot smoking days ended in florida. 1
NavyToad Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 2 years ago, after 35+ years of abstinence I took one single hit. Never again! The stuff nowadays must be 20 times more potent than the Columbian we used to get. I became incapacitated and it was anything but pleasant. I wouldnât be capable of fishing. 1
Super User gim Posted September 1, 2023 Super User Posted September 1, 2023 They just legalized it here in MN on August 1. A cannabis store opened within a short walk of my office, and ironically, the chinese fast food joint next door called Skyway Wok is seeing their business skyrocket. Imagine that. 1 6
corey90 Posted September 1, 2023 Author Posted September 1, 2023 yeah not legal here but when im catfishing at night on the river bank or a weekend camp outing at my favorite lake again bank fishing so there is no driving. i use to be a severe alcoholic for over a decade got sober and now on ally type of mental meds and to feel good and relax i consume cannabis instead of alcohol. i dont do it 24/7 either and go days without but its nice to unwind every now and then. some people like to drink some people like to smoke everyones got vices  2
PourMyOwn Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 It doesn't go along with my style of fishing so no. Half of my back of the boat partners fire em up and I don't mind, I just prefer to be at my best when I'm fishing.Â
