im looking for a light reel with the ability to cast 3/8-5/8 oz rigs with a 2 to 2 1/2 foot leader.

i have the 22 bantam for heaveir rigs and the 22 200 xg conquest ror heavy football heads when i need to go really deep.

there is a grassy lake where the average depth is 8-maybe 10 feet it does have some deep hples but 3/8-5/8 seems to work great i was thinking since im tgoing to throw light i should have lighter gear what are everyones thought on these reel and giv e me some details like the good the bad and your overall opinion please.

None of the above will cast the weights listed any further then each other or....Shimano SLX MGL @less then  1/2 the price.

You should focus on the rod!

You’re talking about a half ounce. Any bait caster will take care of that with no problems from the cheapest Walmart plastic clamshell reel to the highest end of high end. The only thing you need to consider is size. If you’re throwing heavy mono and making long casts then you might want a little bigger reel (bigger being relative). For instance, my JDM Met is a 70 size. If I load it up with bigger diameter 17 lb mono I get around 65 yards of line on it.  That’s fine for most uses and I’ve since switched to thin 16 lb line. But just consider your needs and set the price you want to spend.

just go with a Zillion.

I'd actually say no on that one assuming you're talking the SV TW.  Similar scenario on line capacity for me as the Met.  The Zillion is the reel that I actually still have 17 mono on.  I've had a few times fishing both whopper ploppers and big chatterbaits where I've made a long cast and been able to see the spool through the 2-3 layers of mono still on it.  I'm not normally throwing that far with that rod so its fine once or twice, but if I were fishing like that all the time I wouldn't use that reel (or maybe line).  I think with a good effort I could probably cast the full spool off with 17 lb mono.

For reference, I'm talking about Suffix Elite 17 lb which is .016"/.401mm.  The Zillion JDM lists a capacity for 16 lb as 40-80m.  Japanese 16 lb mono (something like a sunline) is .013/.330 and my guess for their upper limit.  'American' 16 lb is going to be close to the Elite 17 lb which I assume is where they got their lower limit for capacity.  Practically speaking, I bet its ~50 yards of 17 elite that I can get on it which to me isn't enough for long casts with a carolina rig.

My average casting distance with 7/16 oz jig is 40 yards.

Occasional a 50 yard cast is needed to reach the bass.

The skill needed to make long casts under fishing conditions take a lot of practice and balanced rod, reel and line.

My jig rod is a 6’10” MH+F not ideal for casting 50 yards but the reels are tuned with zero breaking and using both FC or Nylon mono .012D; 12# Tatsu FC and 13# Defier Mono. Mono is generally easier line to cast long distances.

The other option to increase line capacity is using braid, good for traditional C-rigs; line floats and cuts though grass/weeds.

I reel set with rod sweep so the rod length isn’t as important as the reels IPT.

PS Zillion HD 8:1, line capacity and high IPT.

Metanium mgl 150 b … I just love that reel. I have some zillions and I prefer the metanium in casting and smooth retrieval. I’m sure steez reels are really great I just don’t own one to comment.

I would say none on that list and I own two of them (Steez SV TW and the Steez CT). Both are good reels but I would not use them for Carolina rigs.

My choices would be a Steez A II, the Zillion HD, or the Metanium with the deep spool.

Now you are into finesse C-rig and jig.  Same reel will be OK just don’t need the extra line capacity. What is the custom rod specs?

No need to go high-end on a reel used solely for C-rigs.  Go for something  in the 7.3:1-8.1:1 gearing and smooth drag as the reels only purpose is taking in line and giving it out under load.  Even with only a 2ft. leader, distance casting will be tricky unless that rod is in the 8ft. range. If you feel you must make long casts, go with a heavier weight. Unlike a Texas rig, a lighter weight is much less important for C-rigs.
