I'm looking for an old fishing book that was a library book at my school when I was 10 or 12 yrs old, Im 56 now I dont know the title or author but it was printed late 50s or early 60's. It was a hardcover and was about introducing new people to fishing freshwater. Rods, reels lines, bait, lures, differnt breeds of fish etc, you know the kind. I'm wondering if any of you have something like this on your book shelf, could you post a  pic of the cover please? I'm sure I would recognize it if I saw it again. It was a part of my childhood and I'd like to try to find it again. Thanks

Try searching ebay for 'vintage fishing book'.  The listings results usually have a thumbnail of the cover.  Might stumble across it there.

Also try your favorite web search engine (google, duckduckgo, bing, etc) for something along lines of "vintage fishing book"  or "vintage book freshwater fishing" and click on the images 'tab' at the top of the results.  It'll bring up a whole lot of  book cover images for you to browse.

Thanks a bunch for the tips. I've been trying all this for some time without any luck so far. The search continues.

Ha ha ha.  Now in these days of sonar and Elon Musk Star Trek satellite scanners, something really lost in the art of bank fishing revealed on this here book cover.  None of that fancy stuff makes much a difference if you scare the heck outa the fish.  I seen folks chatting up a storm and blastin music trying to catch bass.  WRONG WAY.  Even got waders on.  How many bank fishermen do you see these days with waders on.  If you see one, it may be me!

BTW I learned near nothing from those beginner fishing books and sometimes not so good advise too.  There are a few "advanced" books out there but you glean some here and there from this here book and that there book and piece together some good knowledge.

Do you recall the color of the book cover?

Was the book on bass fishing? or General fishing?

Lots of books published in the 50’s To early 60’s and have most of them.

Red Cover could be Lucas on Bass by Jason Lucas for example.

Not really fishing books but when I was in the first grade the library had 2 books called “Billy Bass” and “Bobby Bluegill” Absolutely loved reading those books about the life cycle of these fish. Never knew what became of them.

Good luck in your search.
