GoneFishingLTN Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 I have a TON of Dbombs, but here in Iowa there is not much grass that is good for flipping. So I'm having trouble finding a good way or time to use them does any one have any suggestions on when or where for these baits? I'm assuming in the spring and fall flipping to wood since I've heard they have a more of a glide action but am not sure Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 I fish the Dbomb quite a bit. Most of the time its on a texas rig. I normally switch between the Dbomb and the Structure bug to see which one the fish prefer. Dbombs rock. Some of the other ways I've thrown them with good success. Shaky head- another one of my favorites. Carolina rig Jig trailer weightless 1 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted August 22, 2023 Super User Posted August 22, 2023 I don't leave home without D-Bombs, pegged in the Spring they are dynamite. Fish them on a Free Rig or T Rig in the summer time around deeper cover, grass lines, flats and they're fantastic as well. Something about this bait bigger than average size fish find attractive, but that's true for most craw type baits. You don't have to flip/pitch D Bombs, just throw them to targets like you would a jig. 2 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 You dont need grass to fish a Dbomb. Just put on a T rig and pitch wood, you'll catch fish for sure. That ton will get whittled down pretty fast. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted August 22, 2023 Super User Posted August 22, 2023 I too bought a ton of them two years ago when they were on sale. Both sizes. I’ve caught one fish using one as a jig trailer. The small ones look great on a bitsy jig or similar. I’m sure the big ones will catch fish, but for some reason I gravitate to a palmetto bug instead. Probably the elaztech and fishing it through grass and not cutting up baits. Maybe next trip I’ll prerig one and choose to fish it. @Siebert Outdoors and others who fish them a lot- do you find they need a little less weight for a Texas rig compared to a comparable bait for the same fall rate? I normally throw a 3/8 oz tungsten with a palmetto bug in moderate grass, but my brain thinks the dbomb probably needs a little less for the same uses. thanks rick Quote

I'm a 3/8 Trig guy for stuff like this. Sometimes I'll go lighter or heavier but mostly 3/8. 2 Quote
Texas Flood Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 I really like using the Dbomb on a Tokyo rig. Their super bug is a great color to use in dirty water. 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted August 22, 2023 Super User Posted August 22, 2023 I wish I knew when to use them. I bought three packs of the Baby D Bombs and so far I can't get a fish to look at them. I've had far better luck with the Zoom Z Craw Jr which is a similar type bait. I may end up tossing the Baby D Bombs in the trash. Quote

I don't fish Dbombs, but the Sweet Craw I make and fish is similar, with thick claws that don't flap, but give the bait a gliding action. I rig it on a flipping rig with a snelled straight shank, and peg the sinker tight so that it keeps the hook cammed over. The bait glides and spirals similar to a tube on the fall and always lands upright. Deadly from iceout till iceover. 3/8 is my favorite weight as well and only deviate from it when depth, cover, or the fish require it. Once in awhile in warm water a faster fall rate gets bit better, but 3/8 is the standard. Quote
