Toy for Soft Bird Lure

I seen this soft silicone toy, and my first thought was "bird bait!" I rigged it with a 4/0 EWG hook. It's dang tough and I think it'll hold up if I do catch fish on it. I plan to use a hook to run the line from the front of the beak into the opening in the head and tie onto the hook. I figure the opening would be just about right for a split shot, if I need weight. It's just about weightless as is, and the hook acts as a keel to keep the bird upright.

 

 

 

So how does everyone reckon it'll work?

I think it is a clever idea and would give it a try, if nothing else it would be fun to see the look on my fishing buddies faces.

I would fully expose the hook.  Don't want to risk the plastic bunching up on the hookset.

The hard part will be finding a toy bird specific rod and reel to use with it.  ?

 

If it works I hope you have a reliable supply of them.

@Darth-Baiter  I believe @MN Fisheris correct. The crest on the dinosaur’s head suggests it is likely a pteranodon.  
 

MN is not only a science master but also a karate master in street fighter, lol. Ken was my go to character back in the days of SF 2.

I would paint that joker black with a red belly and throw it back in the willows or right on thick pads and hang on. If you could get a wide gap with a screw in bait keeper and get it to stick in that chickens beak it would help keep it from bunching up. 

When I was a kid in the 70s we would shoot black birds out of trees around stock ponds, when they hit the water giant bullfrogs or little gators grabbed them. If the birds were nesting and there were hundreds of them in the trees, the bass would stack up under the pads and absolutely crush them.  I wish they would have had black frogs and braid back then, we never tried to sling a blackbird on our Zepco 33s

You can try it as a big drop shot. On my lakes, pterodactyl's like swimming subsurface more than they do flying.

It does float... I was flopping it pretty good under the tree line I was at... thinking it would look like a bird that had fallen out of a nest/tree.

Figure I'd give an update. I didn't fish this but once, and not for very long. Then I put it in a compartment with some other soft baits, like my catch all spot for worms and lizards and such that I've used, and the other worms melted it so badly it wasn't usable any longer.

dangit, I'm sorry to hear that. I was hoping to see a picture of a big bass with a toy bird in it's mouth.
