I've only been on this forum for a few months now. But I have come to a conclusion. One of you on this forum is the bait monkey, dressed and disguised as a forum member.
After being out of bass fishing for a number of years and only saltwater fishing, I had to start all over again with new bass tackle

One of the first things I noticed on here being talked about was a whopper plopper. Of course I had to go spend $14 on one. It's gotta be the best thing ever.

But no. Soon after that, I hear the discussion going on about the Whopper plopper versus the Choppo. Hmmmm. What's a Choppo?  Today while walking blindfolded through Wally World fishing dept I hear something calling my name. It's a whole rack of Berkley Choppos. Yup. I had to spend another $12 and buy one of those.
So. What's next? Two months ago I'd have told you you're crazy if you said I'd buy a $4 tungsten worm weight!  Yup. I did that too.

Which one of you is secretly the Bait Monkey throwing out all of these expensive ideas for me to bite?
it's working.
Retirement is great though. I get to try out all these things

Use all your well-earned politnesse

Or I'll lay your debit card to waste

Pleased to meet you

Hope you guessed my name

But what's puzzling you

Is the nature of my game

I shouted out

Who is the Bait Monkey

When after all

It is you and me

Or is it?

The retirement monkey is creeping on me.  How ever, I think the “you need more savings “ monkey has a better argument right now. :)

Yeah I don’t think I’ve lost one. The strength and resistance of 65lb braid is absurd. It’s why I love punching so much. It is as heavy as heavy gets in bass fishing. Plus I just like pulling a fish out of someplace where it doesn’t make sense for them to be

Yes sir. I’ll put a 6 speed reel on this one and keep the 5 speed on my other one. The 5 will continue to pull full time spinnerbait duty and this one will kinda be a junk rod. Skipping, buzzbaits, pitching, walking baits, and one top secret thing

yep. Also pretty good for squarebills around cover, bigger paddle tails like a keitech 4.3 sif, and does a pretty good job with a frog on braid in moderate cover. If you had a lineup of head turners, amistads, and swim jigs you could fish basically anything anywhere.

One of my friends is a rep for a fishing company and invited me to Icast,  i told him maybe next year. I do enough damage just watching whats new on tackle warehouse and hook up tackle on you tube. I have an addiction to certain things and I don't have the mental fortitude or desire to seek help at this point.

To make things works, I also fish saltwater inshore tournaments, so if I see something that works for both I can't justify not buying it.

I wish the tungsten weights we use down here were 4$, we lose them to mud fish all the time. Even on 85

the giant ones bite down and spin in the slop, I'd rather hook a gator on a frog and at least have a chance of getting it back.

Pfft... A mere drop in the bucket. Go ask @A-Jay about jackhammers. After you financially recover from that, ask @AlabamaSpothunter about swimbaits, then inquire about rods and reels. This place has more monkeys than the Amazon. I'm just glad I'm not one of them. ?
