beer + fishing?

i noticed a few in the food thread noted beer.  i would LOVE a beer on some days, but i dont.  why?  one beer makes me sleepy, and the drive home shouldnt be that exciting.  Plus i would pee a lot.  standing on a kayak to pee shouldnt ever be taken for granted, and in this case, "less is more".

my one buddy brings 4 Modelos and sips them all day.  he is fine, even on the drive home.  plus..warm beer.  yuck.   he drinks them from an ice chest with barely any ice!

you all?

I wonder if you can get a DUI operating a jon boat with a trolling motor on a private lake....like those dudes getting DUIs on riding lawn mowers mowing their grass ?

I like to enjoy a cold beer if I'm fishing in the evening.  I'm not talking about pounding a 6 pack here.  I live 10 minutes from the lake if I'm fishing in the evening after work.  One beer over the course of 3 hours of fishing isn't an issue.  That's the same as going out to dinner and having a drink.

Warm beer is disgusting.  Mine has to be cold.  Like frosty ice cold.

I have a hard and fast rule....no alcohol when on the water or on a motorcycle. You can drink all you want when you get off the boat or motorcycle as long as you ARE NOT driving afterwards. I like a beer or a whiskey as much as the next guy, but drinking and driving (car, motorcycle or boat) is just stupid. I have no problem with having ONE drink (beer or any alcohol) with food when out for dinner at a restaurant, as long as I am not driving within an hour. And I will NEVER drink while on a boat even if I am not the one driving. Water, sun, heat, and booze can be a deadly mix. Most people do not realize how hard alcohol can hit them under those conditions. Your judgement, balance and vision can all be impacted by even one drink while on a boat. Just wait till you get home......Now I will step down from my soapbox.

Guys who know me know I don’t allow beer or smoking on my boat, for

obvious reasons. Neither one of us would be happy if you burned a hole in my seat or got tipsy and fell. This is my choice. If someone can’t go 6 hours without a cigarette or beer, that’s their choice.

No alcohol on Bass Trek - period.

I decided a couple years ago that I wouldn’t bring alcohol while fishing. I tried it twice and didn’t like it. I just am not as sharp.

Same. It throws off my focus and casting accuracy. Bad idea in hot weather, too.

I used to think that a couple of beers was no big deal while out fishing.  Then I fished Lake of the Ozarks a few times during the summer.  Now I don't want any alcohol in the boat with me.

Im not a big beer guy these days opting for whiskey or Gin&Tonics instead. Also I've got nothing against somebody enjoying a few adult beverages while fishing as long as they aren't getting drunk or acting a fool. That said I can't remember the last time I drank while fishing, I'm too focused on catching fish so I've got no time or desire.

I wouldn't be comfortable being on a boat if the other person was drinking beer. I'm not comfortable being on dry land around those consuming alcohol either though. My dad was an alcoholic, so I've never had the desire for it.

Never have or will allow alcohol on my boat. I knew a man that didn't drink, that took a friend fishing that did drink. Drunk fell in, sober guy jumped in to save him, they both drowned.

I do often enjoy whiskey/bourbon late in the evening at home, after tying my leader knots.

I've always got a beer or two, maybe more depending how long I'll be out. On the hot days, I'll be beer with a 64oz water bottle and Gatorade. My kayak gives me access to pee while standing or sitting so its great.

Fishing is fishing and beer is beer and never the twain shall meet.

Or, if you prefer, fishing is fishing and beer is beer and an elephant never forgets, that’s Boulder’s rule (points if you can recall that lol).

I love beer (having a St. Arnold Art Car as we speak, err, type. But I do not like to drink beer while fishing. Water only.

I rarely pack any beer to go fishing, but I do stop at one of the restaurant/ bars that are on the river, once and awhile.
Not the fancy type, just chips and sandwich kinda a places. Sometimes I’ll stop and have a beer or two, have some chips, listen to all other guys tell their fishing tales.
They’re all a bunch of liars. Ha haha. Bet they say the same thing about me. As I sit on a barstool next to them.

While ‘really fishing’ no, obviously not allowed in tournaments anyway..Late afternoon in the fall while the sun goes down? Absolutely.

Not college days drunk. Early 40’s, I got ***** to do tomorrow but I’ll enjoy today buzz.

I never take beer while fishing. I think I had my share of beer drinking when I was young. I'm not much of a drinker anymore. I don't have any tolerance for it. If I drink two beers, I'm half tipsy- especially in the heat. Be careful out there.

You guys should see the ice fishing crowd here in the winter.  98% of them drink heavily while they are out there.  In fact, I'm fully convinced that ice fishing would not even exist had beer not been invented first.

When I was guiding it was a strict rule for both me and clients.  As much as I paid in liability insurance, I didn’t need the risk of  someone hooking themselves, falling overboard or wrecking on their drive home.  That bled over to my everyday fishing.  What could go wrong with operating a vessel with no brakes on a body of water with no speed limit and with other operators who may be more buzzed than me….nope, I can’t drink on a boat, it’s like my throat closes up. Now to be honest, when we are in Wisconsin running a 21 foot pontoon with a 35hp motor and I am not the captain, I will take a mixed drink out for the evenings booze cruise.

It don’t bother me if a passenger has some brewskies. It’s fun to laugh with them. A slobbering, crying drunk ain’t no fun though. Dangerous too.

If I had to sit in an ice fishing hut all winter to get a fix, I'd be a slobbering drunk, too.
