3 pc blanks, batson rx7 in particular

Hi guys,

 

Anyone used the rx7 three piece blanks?  The latest email flyer featured them and gave me the thought that I wouldn’t mind having a travel baitcaster. Anyone build on one and can give a review?  I’ve used lots of rx7 fly rod blanks on the past so know the general quality to value you get in that lineup. Any other 3 pc casting rod blanks worth looking at?

I have built the old RX6 travel blank 7 foot ML power into an inshore spin rod, (SB841-3) and it is a great rod.  It has a little more power than I would characterize as ML but has a very fast action (~80 degrees AA) so it casts a wide range of lure weights, including light jigs, very well.  I've used it for freash water finesse, cranks, and salt bonefish jigs and cudas.  I even took a 5 foot shark on it last year, and it has done everything well.  I expect the RX7's will be very good too.

Have built quite a few RX7 7, 3 pc. blanks from the last introduction, mostly the ISP 847-3, 12 -30 lb. rated blanks designed for peacock bass, etc. great blanks, also the ISP 843-3 and 844-3. The new ones look similar, just 2 inches longer. One of the aforementioned blanks was built for a gentleman who did a lot of travel installing and repairing robotics systems. He carried the rods everywhere with him in a common case, the reels were in his luggage. The 847-3 was by far his favorite, catching large fish of all species everywhere he went, including a trip to the Amazon for peacocks. The old green color made a striking rod.

I agree the later RX6 rods were dandies too, built quite a few of the 4 pc. SB 720-4 rods, as mentioned before they are more powerful than I anticipated, but still nice rods.
