Hello everyone. I am new to fishing. I've been fishing a few months and have caught a handful of largemouth bass. I have caught one smallmouth so far as well. My daughter asked me if we could start fishing and I told her sure. So I started learning about fishing, tying knots and how to tie rigs and retrieve different lures and baits on YouTube. I told my wife a couple of weeks ago I was hooked (no pun intended). I can't stop looking up stuff online and watching videos trying to learn more. I am trying to decide on my second (first) rod that is not a combo. I am fishing a pflueger presidential 6'6 rod at the moment. I have already upgraded my reel to the Shimano Nasci 3000fc spinning reel. I hope I can learn a lot here.

Thanks for having me.

Howdy, and welcome from Ky.

When you say you upgraded from the president reel, is there something you didn’t like about it? Or a video or article you saw that prompted the change? I’ve been thinking about a president reel myself, though I know they aren’t the best in the market they seem like they are pretty decent.

There was nothing wrong with it. I was really meaning that I had gotten a faster reel. The one that came on the rod I believe was a 5:2 and the one I upgraded to was a 6:2:1 gear ratio. I lot of videos I have watched were talking about faster gear ratios being better. So I upgraded to a faster gear. Once I get a new rod that reel will be going back onto the presidential rod that it came with.

Ah, thanks for the info. Different gear ratios are better for different applications and lure presentations. just depends on what you're doing with the rig. I mostly use spinning gear for soft plastics and light lures, like rooster tails, beetle spins, and mini crankbaits/poppers.
