spinning rod case needed

i just bought a rod case from BPS.  The case is really nice and definitely fits the bill for features and length.  But I found that it is more suited for baitcasting rods.  I have a 2 piece, 6'-6" St Croix Premier spinning rod.  When I tried to insert the rod into the case, the largest eye of the spinning rod, would not fit into the tube of the case.  I tried both the pouch end, as well as the tube end, thinking it was operator error.  But no luck.  the inner diameter of the tube is about 1/2" too small.  I wasn't about to jamb the rod in, so I gave up and now i'm looking once again for a case.

 

I am looking for a case that is in the 42" range.  can be slightly larger, not smaller.  I would like one that I can keep the reel in tact, and not have to disassemble each time.  The case will reside in my truck for those random wading / bank fishing trips when I see a body of water I wanna stop at.  It's not for shipping, just recreational use.

 

Do any of you have a rod case that you use that fits spinning rods nicely?

I use a case made by Allen for the same rod you have. Walmart or Amazon has them.

it might be the same one i was looking at as well.  can you confirm the diameter tube that has?

It is hard to measure. I would say about 2 1/4 plus.

Temple Fork makes triangular rod cases that easily hold spinning rods with tall guides.  I have one that holds two spinning rods with very tall guides + two fly rods.  They come in different lengths.  Very nice cases.

@MickD - thanks for recommendation. The only ones i see there are 8, 9, and 10 ft in length. 

 

I measured from rhe back of the rod to the tip of the largest eye, and I'm at 3". It sounds like I have an irregular rod. Certainly doesn't effect fishing, but the storage case becomes the issue

I think the lengths are the lengths of the rods.  Look closely at the specs.  I assure you there are ones that are MUCH shorter than 8 feet.  Fuji KLH guides are very tall and the rod case I recommend will take them.

I found that by keeping the reel separate (I keep my reels in my tackle box), I had a lot more choices in finding spinning rod cases that were the right size and protected well.  Maybe a consideration if you can't find a rod/reel case that fits.

Could make one out of PVC. Variety of cap options. Multiple diameters.

A PVC cobbled rod case that would accept the tall guides that we are talking about would weigh so much it really doesn't make sense.  And opening and closing it would be difficult.  Temple Fork has the answer.

i came across a store by the name of Sportsman's Warehouse.  I have never heard of them before.  Turns out they have a store about 30 minutes from me.  They had a rod case that has a rectangular tube for rods with 3" line guides. ordered it, and picked it up today.  I took my rod with me so i could try it in the case BEFORE i left the store with it,  fit like a glove.

The thin wall PVC rain gutter material has been used for spinning rod cases for decades. I have a few of the Sage large diameter cases, I believe they are 6 inch diameter, they hold a lot of rods, and have travelled to Alaska and other places many times. they are not heavy for their size.
