I've been losing neko rigged worms skipping docks with them.  I've tried regular plastisol senkos and dingers and elaztech big TRDs.  I've hooked them through the plastic, through O-rings and through the plastic and an O-ring.  I've used 1/0 wacky hooks and 2/0 neko hooks with and without bait buttons but eventually the worm flys off.  Is there anything to stop that from happening other than casting more gently?

I use #6 VMC crossover rings and never sling them off.

Of course you'll need their pliers to install the rings.

2 suggestions to try:

  • Instead of an O-ring, try shrink tubing, and hook both the worm and go through the tubing - this should help you grab more surface area.
  • Your hooks might be a little too big and allow too much "play" when snapping the cast. Try #2 (not 2/0) VMC Neko hooks.

Yet another reason I don’t fool with neko or wacky. Those worms seem to end up in fish guts after they fly off too. They will still eat the worm if you hook it with an offset worm hook

I’ve neko rigged quite a few times. I always use an o ring and a big TRD. I hook both the elaztech and o ring when rigging. Never had 1 fly off the hook, but I’m using a spinning reel and don’t sling it very hard. Think I’ve been using with #1 or #2 vmc hooks.
