Guest the_muddy_man Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hey Fellas I have started the transition to bait casting I never really understood the Graphite/aluminum thing as far as frames go. I have kept one spinning outfit for smaller baits I have a Pflueger President #35 Spinning reel on it and have beat it to death without any twist or tourque problems And I dont ever see it happening A friend of mine with a whole arsenal of different Bait Casting Reels is letting me use a few to pratice NOW I SEE WHAT ALL YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT I still belive this is not a factor with a quailty built graphite spinning reel but this bait casting business is a whole other deal He took a few reels apart for me to show me how to deal with those 6 pin drags etc and showed me the gears and guts of the reel and NOW I SEE just how they are assembled and the small tolerances involved that METAL IS THE WAY TO GO WITH BAITCASTERS he tied the tag end of a line to a lawn chair and reeled in a little and you could see and hear things goin outta wakc with the graphite bodied reels I will be sticking with metal framed BC's thats for sure! BucketmouthAngler13 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 yup, metal is the way to go. you can get a Browning reel with a One-peice Alluminum frame for just $70 bucks. Never get a graphite frame, spending the extra money for metal is worth it. Quote
dink Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I have a 7 year old Pfleuger Summit with a graphite frame that has been used and abused..... as recently as yesterday... flawlessly. Always exceptions to the rules. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Hey Dink I know what you mean I actually have ordered a BPS ExtemeBaitcaster but may have to start up with another reel that is in the 60 buck range if that happens it will be a Pflueger Eschelon which is graphite How ever im trying to hold out for a Pflueger Trion, I love Pflueger Products If I have to start with the Eschelon I will eventually upgrade to a Trion or President I really Love every Pflueger product I have ever used they are good reels Quote
Hawgin Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I have 3 Pflueger Echelon's that I have been using since the first week they were available. I've had no problems with the frames on them or with them torquing while I've been using them. As long as you take care of your reels I don't think you will have anyproblems with these. Quote
Super User flechero Posted November 1, 2006 Super User Posted November 1, 2006 he tied the tag end of a line to a lawn chair and reeled in a little and you could see and hear things goin outta wakc with the graphite bodied reels That's why you shouldn't practice casting in the yard!! You could hook a chair and upset your reel!! Just out of curiosity, what reel was it? Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 2 reels I was looking at Cabelas Black something or other and Their Prodigy reel I love Cabelas but you should have seen the Prodigy start squealing He did the same thing with A Pflueger President and one of those ABU 5000 red reels and they did not make any noise in fact he had the chair movin with that abu reel I looked a t a lot of reels I ordered the BPS Extreme b/c its aluminum But I m gonna need one more rig and Im going to give the Pflueger Eschelon a try Ill upgrade when I can to a President Quote
volpster31 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 i agree that metal framed baitcasters are better...., but i have 2 old quantum ex501 models that are graphite & i love them...never had a problem with those reels...i think the quality of the reel is the bottom line.... Quote
