we bought our cat a cat tree a long time ago.  the snot decided she didnt like it darn near immediately.  so it is essentially unused.  we do hide dog toys in it, in it for our "contraband search dog" game.  I was lifting it into my truck to put into a dumpster.  it was brand new, looking so we put up a for free ad.  6 minutes and we have a line of willing recipients.  WOW!!

I offered to deliver, but nope.  first response is on the way.  crazy

I’ve wondered if some of the folks that pick up the free stuff we put up are just turning around and selling it.

We just (a few weeks ago) bought a bigger cat tree. Did the same. Posted it free. Put it on the curb. Washed my hands.

Gone!

My brother in law had a cast iron smoker that he moved from Dallas to Chicago and then to Cresent beach in Florida.  Since they live right on A1A on the beach, if they have anything they want to get rid of, they just put it at the end of their driveway close to the road and it magically disappears.  The smoker was in real bad shape rusted to the point of unusable.  Last time we were there, he asked if we could load it in the back of my truck to take to the landfill.  I agreed.  This thing was so heavy the 2 of us couldn’t get it off the ground so we decided to drag it to the street.  Took us a half hour of grunting. Next morning….gone.

Some years back I put out an old lawn mower that was in pretty bad shape.  You had to baby it to start it, and the only way to turn it off was to pull the wire off of the spark plug.  I put it out for trash and about 30 minutes later this guy stops and asks me if he can take it.  I told him sure, but it will need some work.

Our old place was like that, right on the highway, so anything that was still half descent that we didn’t want got drug to the end of the driveway and never lasted the day.  I once took a pretty much completely rotten wood swingset/slide that we had for our son to the end of the drive, just to see if there’d be any takers before I hauled it to the dump, it was gone before I even walked all the way around our house, and the thing was like 12’ long!

Now we’re on a dead end road with almost zero traffic, so we have to haul everything away, but I’d rather have it like this anyway.

Curbing it makes life easy, and if they sell it or scrap, make me no never mind. It’s just gone.

I got a new washer and dryer. They delivered and installed but wouldn’t take the old ones. No problem. A friend would come by the next day so hadnd help me take them to the dumps. I had nowhere to put the old ones so put them at the end of the driveway. Before I went to bed, as a joke I put a sign on each one for $100. You guessed it, woke up the next morning and they were gone. Hope they were happy with a non working washer. I was afraid they’d bring it back. LOL

Wrapping the trash up like this

and putting it to the curb

is almost always good for a few laughs . . . .

one time a friend's pet rooster died of some foot rot thing.  we put it in a bag and went to get rid of it.  but in the meantime we wanted a beer first.  we came out and it was stolen out of the back of his truck.

I forgot. I bought a new gas grill (like 20 years ago) and put the ol’ rusty Char-Broil on the curb with a “Free to Good Home” sign on it. Three hours. No takers. Swapped the sign to one that said “$5.00 or best offer”.  It was “stolen” in 5 minutes! ?
