thediscochef Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 I know exactly where this is, my uncle was gonna build a house on the edge of the CoE land on the north arm of the lake. He lost to cancer before it was finished. He and my dad used to fish there a ton when we lived in an appropriate part of the state to do so. When I pass through I always stop around the lower marina. Tough bite there, but some pretty cool stuff to be caught. I for sure stand by my love of flats with nearby depth changes at this location 1 Quote

And I started looking around at this location for catfish, not bass. I hid the name of the creek because I just don't see many people fishing around here and want it to stay that way but I publicly say everywhere here that my favorite lake around here is Stillhouse. Only @Catt knows some of the spots I fish on Stillhouse though, and I usually don't encounter too many boats fishing my stuff on Stillhouse 2 Quote
Pat Brown Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 You guys with your fancy secret spots on your big fancy lakes. ?????? The only thing anywhere close to that we have is offshore structure and honestly it's like anyone with electronics finds it in like five minutes. I always marvel at lakes that have creek arms that are the size of my home lake. 1 2 Quote

I'm usually on my way somewhere else and just haven't had the time to explore. Both of those lakes have some excellent channel swings and flats to pick from though, seems like an amazing place to have a boat. I think they're both overlooked for what they are. and I feel ya, I'm a little more guarded with my ray roberts locations these days but my best spot is the most pressured area on the lake LOL 2 Quote

The problem I encountered with Somerville when I fished there was everybody and their mama knows about the places that seemed to have good structure or good cover. I went out one day and had like 8 spots I wanted to check based on stuff I had marked and there was a boat sitting on every single one. Seriously. I graphed most of that lake too. Eventually gave up on it because the fishing was bad too. I'm not gonna act like I know some super secret sauce on Stillhouse. People catch bigger stringers than me. Seriously, pay attention to other people. But I don't enjoy people fishing my stuff if I can avoid it. Everybody that structure fishes, finds their own fish, and their own spots - knows what I'm talking about. 4 minutes ago, thediscochef said: targeting other bass smallmouth. TPWD puts a lot of wipers in there. One of the tough parts about most of TX is that all the lakes are like a few hours apart with few exceptions. Its one of the things that I love about DFW, and would love wayyyyy more if I had a boat. I can hit 10k acres driving less than 90 minutes in any direction. 1 Quote

Pat Brown Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 @LrgmouthShad it's almost always a milk run kinda deal on my lakes. I find that I can sometimes catch 3-4 fish off of a school, but more often I'm looking for one or two bites per key area and I'll kinda rotate the good spots because I find that letting them rest and coming back almost always works better for me than sitting on the spot. Another thing is big time weather/time of day. Shade and other things make certain areas key at certain times of day and most of the rest of the day they're dead. All I know is fall lets hurry up where's them deer at? Make the boats and people go away. I can't wait. ?? 4 Quote

Super User Catt Posted August 14, 2023 Super User Posted August 14, 2023 One of the things I like about Toledo Bend is its remote enough that after the spawn the pressure dies until fall. The fall pressure is short lived because of football & hunting season. Another reason I night fish is you can go all night & never see another boat. If you do see another boat it's a pontoon boat crappie fishing. 3 Quote

I don’t like fishing that deep but it’s not too deep Anyone listen to the Mercer podcast with Mark Zona? Yep. When people post they don’t fish deeper than 30 I do a silent celebration . I know guys that have caught LMB 70-100 feet trolling lake trout 2 Quote
