Stewillard Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 I’m searching for a good spinning rod to be my only rod for use in the St. Lawrence. I’ll mostly dropshot for smallmouth but will try for pike. I’m thinking a rod rated for up to only 12lb line might be a bit light. I sure would like some thoughts and recommendations. Thanks Quote
ironbjorn Posted August 12, 2023 Posted August 12, 2023 M/F in whatever length you like, whatever company you prefer, with whatever budget you have. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 12, 2023 Super User Posted August 12, 2023 St Croix Victory VTS 71MF, is a good benchmark to look at. Tom Quote
Stewillard Posted August 12, 2023 Author Posted August 12, 2023 Thanks Tom- I’ll check out the St. Crouix. Okay; length 7’6” is about the longest I would choose, I have no preference regarding company or budget. If the rod fits the bill, I’ll consider it. Quote

Tom I looked at the Victory and also noticed the Legend Tournament. I read your comment about the handle, that’s an important point. I’m sure that one of these will be acceptable so now I’ll look to see if either of these is available to put my hands on. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted August 13, 2023 Posted August 13, 2023 Daiwa KAGE 7’ medium all around. I love that rod from drop shot to poppers and jerkbait I’ll even throw a weightless senko. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 A Med/fast spinning rod is a good choice for all around spinning applications regardless of the body of water. 1 Quote
djhands Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I really like my alx mcsmalls. Hands 3 pound smallies on 6lb test really well Quote
Eric 26 Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) Take a look at Okuma, a nice rod for the money. Although my 3 are casting (evx) no longer available & 2 (TCS-A) I feel they’re priced very fair for the build quality and they have some supporters besides me on here as well.
