Brett's_daddy Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 What’s everyone’s opinions on this reel? I’ve seen mixed reviews. I have a chance to trade my SLX XT straight up for one…wondering if i should do it. 1 Quote
T2DM Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I have not seen any "real" review on the Curado 200M yet. Even though the 200M is equipped with MGL 3 spool, it's also holds more line so I would guess the SLX XT would hold its own against the 200M as far as casting distance, but I'd bet the 200M will be better built with the included features and should be smoother. T2DM Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Man, sorry guys for not paying attention, I used to have the K but got rid of it. It was a tank, smooth and well-built but too dang tall to palm and just not ergonomic for me anyways. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted August 9, 2023 Super User Posted August 9, 2023 I have a few 200K's that I like well enough. But I like the Curado MGL 150 and 70 much more. If you want something palmable, the 70 almost disappears in your hand. 2 Quote

I already have an SLX XT which is very palmable but this guy wants to trade an almost new 200 for it and I’m wondering if I should. Quote
MiceNReets Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Not worth it. What do you use the slx xt for and what do you plan to use the 200 for? others have already gave their suggestion and you’re asking again. Seems like you’re fishing for someone to say do it to justify the trade. In that case go ahead and trade. The other guy will be happier and you’ll wonder why you traded. if the curado 200 is so much better than the slx xt. Would it make sense for someone to do a straight up trade for a lesser reel? Only you can decide that. edit: Sorry I hope this didn’t come out as rude or argumentative or anything. Not my intention at all. 2 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted August 9, 2023 Super User Posted August 9, 2023 I've never fished any version of the SLX. What makes the SLX XT a better option than the Curado 200K? I always assumed the K was the superior reel. 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I have a Curado 200K and an SLX DC as well as an SLX 70 MGL, but not an SLX XT. I really like my Curado 200K. Nothing about it I don't care for. The slightly upsize capacity/width from the 'standard' sized Curados makes it excellent for use on slightly heavier rods (MH/Moderate) slinging slightly upsized hard baits like the 117 gunfish, a whopper plopper, or the 5/0 flashy swimmer with a 4.8" Keitech on 12-15 lbs mono . . . for me. It fills that slightly upsized niche very well for me and bridges that gap from my standard sized 100/150 reels to my Tatula 200's (I have two of those). I don't think I feel the need for a second Curado 200K, but I do like having one of them. If you have a need for a 200K and aren't going to miss the SLX XT, then it could make sense, but I wouldn't suggest trading for it just because of some perceived higher value (valid or not) of the 200K. 2 Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted August 10, 2023 Author Posted August 10, 2023 Decided to stick with my SLX. Too many negative reviews online for the 200k which kind of surprised me because generally Curado’s have stellar reviews but seems Shimano may have stumbled with this particular model. 1 Quote

Shimano should've kept at least the 200i platform (including the thumb bar), paint it Curado green and throw some upgrades and whatnot in it. That would have been cool, kind of like what they did with the SLX DC XT without the DC. Quote

After using the slx mgl and now the slx dc xt. I don’t even see a need to even glance at the curado/scorpion anymore. 1 Quote

I've been eyeballing the SLX DC XT to add along with my 17 Scorpion DC but somehow, I have a feeling that the new Metanium DC will come out soon and would rather buy that instead, but then again I might just get both? Ironically, the model it replaced, the 200i, had glowing reviews. they went a step down after going 3 steps up. I have one of the 200i models and its amazing. no idea why they changed the whole thing with the K models. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewshimanocuradoibaitcaster.html Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted August 10, 2023 Super User Posted August 10, 2023 I love my 200k. It’s a tank. It’s bigger so maybe less comfy to palm. It was never a problem until I got a few 150 reels. mine is smooth and can cast very very far. I can cast a frog way beyond my target and into the tule with the best of them. It’s not glamorous or fancy. But solid. Quote
Dye99 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 The 200k Definitely has a place in my collection of reels. It's built like a tank and smooth. Thats all I can ask for. Its no Alderbaron but I would not trade it off. Quote
T2DM Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 The only Curado I have left is the MGL 71K. I used to have 201K HG and DC 151HG, the last one I bought was a 151 MGL but I ended up sending it back due to the uneven line lay, I didn't want to mess with it, so I sent it back and swap it with another 18 Bantam which I'm really glad I did. On top of that I find the exposed pawl cap of the 201K, DC and 151 MGL a bit annoying cause of the way I palm my reels. That's just me though to be clear. Quote
JN94 Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I would for sure do it, unless the size difference (which is pretty minimal) is a deal breaker for you. The K is an upgrade across the board 1 Quote

They were notorious for brake whine and while most of us on this forum can figure out how to fix it, I imagine for your average consumer that might have resulted in a return/exchange. That said, they did an incredible job marketing the K. Even on this forum everyone was saying it was the greatest Curado ever ... I still prefer the I Quote

Thats about the only negative to them. In terms of performance though they are top notch and didn't have a lot of the issues that the K version did, like tight brake dials and thumb bars falling apart. Quote
UmairF Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I ended up grabbing a Curado 200M off Omnia since they got a deal going on right now for Pro members. Thinking to replace my 150 mgl with it that’s currently paired up with a 7’3 XH Expride B for frogging primarily. Secondary applications I was thinking if using it for are punching with 1oz+ into thick mats and larger single hook swimbaits. Quote
