Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 7, 2023 Super User Posted August 7, 2023 Hey y’all, Going to take another break from fishing for a couple months maybe. At the one month mark, I may decide to fish again at a low frequency, something like one weeknight a week. I’ve started to notice some stress on my joints and I think I’m getting a little too wrapped up in fishing at the moment. Instead of waiting for things to get worse, just going to stop now. Hope to come back rejuvenated for the start of fall. I feel like Ive learned a lot, rapidly, about my local lake, and I feel fine taking a break 3 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 7, 2023 Super User Posted August 7, 2023 Heal yourself up - the bass will still be waiting. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 7, 2023 Author Super User Posted August 7, 2023 @MN Fisher thanks. It ain’t bad, and I kinda planned on taking a break at some point already, but when I started noticing the stress, decided I would start early. I really wanted to finish up August but it is what it is. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted August 7, 2023 Global Moderator Posted August 7, 2023 You just need a bigger boat I felt some stress on my rear end after sitting in a metal canoe in Michigan for a week, all gone now haha 3 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 7, 2023 Super User Posted August 7, 2023 Bass will be waiting for you and so will we. A-Jay 2 1 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 I think about taking a break from fishing every once in a while. Then the FOMO shifts into warp speed and I get real grouchy thinking about someone else catching my PB. But I’m sure you’ll be fine. See you soon. 2 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted August 7, 2023 Super User Posted August 7, 2023 Break? does this mean you are going to see other forums? just kidding. take time, we won't judge. unless you start golfing or something instead. 1 3 Quote
Kirtley Howe Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Just because you are taking a break from fishing doesn't mean you have to take a break from the site. But, your choice, do what is best for you and come back soon. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted August 7, 2023 Super User Posted August 7, 2023 2 schools of thought. If you are truly injured, carpal tunnel or tennis elbow type of injured, then by all means back off. If you are muscle or tendon stressed like back or legs, I tend to push through it and make those areas stronger. So many don’t understand the different muscle groups used in serious fishing. When I was guiding, I had no choice but to work through it but in the long run it did me good, made my back like gristle and serves me well in our combat fishing in Florida and Michigan for weeks straight. @A-Jay would probably have better advice on proper stretching and exercises to get through what can be and what can’t. 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted August 7, 2023 Super User Posted August 7, 2023 Enjoy your break. You'll be ready in early fall. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 7, 2023 Author Super User Posted August 7, 2023 @Kirtley Howe I’ll still be hanging around BR @Darth-Baiter no golf for me but I’ll be playing more chess and doing a little fancier cooking. I got plenty of hobbies @TOXIC my plan is to take care of my joints in the gym after a very brief period of total rest. 2 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 25, 2023 Author Super User Posted August 25, 2023 Okay y’all help me out here. A coworker was just talking smack saying he doesn’t think I catch any fish and that he needs to see photos of what I catch on Monday. Am I to take this slander? Seriously considering going out and making war on fish so I can catch a big sack and then present it to him. I also know that I’ll be unable to fish for October, November, and part of December because of some work-related stuff. So maybe that’s my break??? 1 Quote

Tell the coworker to worry about doing his job and to watch his own bobber. I wouldn’t be out there suffering through 110 heat indexes just to prove a point. Quote

Conditions are kind of a tossup. It’s actually prefrontal, but it’s over 24hr in advance. Low winds though, and still very hot. No rain for a long time. I’m just confident because I feel like I can find them and I can catch them 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted August 25, 2023 Super User Posted August 25, 2023 Blame me all you want, I don't mind. Good luck brother. You'll have all fall to heal up. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted August 25, 2023 Author Super User Posted August 25, 2023 @T-Billy joints are feeling decent. Should be fine 1 Quote

Caught 4, 2 were good enough to photo and one was a pretty good bass. It was actually very tough. I brought 6 rods, including one spinning, and a shaky head on a spinning is all I could get em to eat. 8lb line and finesse worm. Water temp low 85 (launch), high 91 (done) 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 I had shoulder and elbow issues to the point I couldn’t even hold a rod and reel. This was from musky fishing. I just couldn’t put the rods down. Do yourself a favor and take the break when it comes this fall. Your body and mind will thank you. 1 Quote
