The st.croix bassx rods are on sale right now. But I need a rod for both of these baits. I throw light of both types. Highest maybe 1/4 ounce. I’m asking about power, length and action, not a model of rod. Thanks

The highest is a 1/4oz? Do the spinnerbaits have finer wire hooks? I might use a spinning rod. Something like a 7MHF

Bass-X doesn't have a model that'll handle cranks/spinners that light - You want a Mod-Fast or Mod action and a 'light' end of Medium or even Medium-Light power.

I have one rod that I toss light cranks/spinners/chatters on (some of my finesse cranks are 1/10 oz)

Okuma Reflexions 7'0" ML/MF-F - but it's a spinning rod.

I have a couple of 7.6’ mf casting rods.  They work great for cranks and shaky but I have never tried them on spinner baits because I don’t throw anything under 1/2 oz.

I'd go with a medium moderate fast if you want something for both, but it seems like a medium moderate for the crankbaits and a medium fast for the spinner bait might be better. Also, for what it's worth, I haven't seen good reviews on the recent model of the Bass-X; if I recall correctly, there seems to be a problem with the reel seat.

If you insist on throwing both on the same rod I’d look for a Med/mod fast which is good for steering the crank and popping it off grass and should set a hook on the spinner bait if the hook is sharp and not too heavy wire.

The Mojo Bass Spinnerbait rod is a happy middle ground for both.

For 3/8 and heavier I would fish a mh/f, for around 1/4 I would fish with a m/f or m/m.

I'd get a Dobyn's 703C in the maverick or fury lines.  I have the fury 703C and it is very good for small trebles-the action is more of a medium, moderate fast.  It works great for 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits too.

Which models do you use?

St Croix MLMF BSF Mid. 7’1”

The ideal rod is Loomis PR844C popping rod.

Just as a quick aside, want to let you know I'm still working on that spinnerbait grind and I appreciate all the advice you've given me about it. My confidence is way higher than before, and I've had some really nice numbers days on it. Nothing big yet, but that's basically the story of my year so far regardless of presentation.

Really nice to hear man. I’m glad I could help you. For larger fish, I really like to use em in the winter and prespawn. The trouble is, there are a lot of other big fish baits you can use during that same time frame. I do think though that a spinnerbait is the most underrated lure in the winter. It is a mini A-rig. I don’t care if the water is below 50 degrees.

I am still playing around with seeing if I can find something that works for larger fish at other times of the year. It’ll get bigguns regardless. But true lunkers? Still trying to figure it out. Night/thicker cover helps, I think
