JN94 Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 Checking out this reel. Their website shows they have a "standard" (~100 size spool) version and then a shallow spool version. I can't find the shallow spool edition anywhere for purchase and Okuma doesn't let you order from their website. Can anyone tell me what's going on here? Have they just not released the shallow spool version yet? It also claims the reel can cast down to 3g but doesn't specify if that's the full size or the shallow spool. It's got a super light spool on the standard version so wouldn't be shocked if the full size can pull that off with proper rod/line pairing. But if anyone can explain I'd be very appreciative. Also if anyone owns one, I'd love to hear your general thoughts. Seems to get super positive reviews Quote
Blaine Donders Posted August 5, 2023 Posted August 5, 2023 I have the regular spool version with 10# Tatsu on a ML Rod. I throw 1/10th Neds all the time. The shallow spool versions were listed on all the internet sights when everything was preorder for the Hakai. Once the regular spooled reels started to show up, the skipping and pitching version disappeared. Haven’t ever heard why. 2 Quote
Eric 26 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 @JNorman Have you tried to search for a shallow aftermarket spool? I have the dream tackle version of the Hakai reel but I don’t have enough time on it to tell you much about it other than the build is nice. 1 Quote

I know okuma partnered with DT to make the reel. Yeah I figured the standard spool was light enough that you could cast plenty light. Wonder why the other versions disappeared. Maybe they realized the standard version can do it all and more variations would be unnecessary I appreciate the reply. Going to put it an order for one of these and see what it's about 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 @JNorman Yes and as far as I can tell it’s still available. Check your pm folder I sent you a message. Quote

Are you telling me there is an Okuma version and a DT version? Dream Tackle sells their own version of this reel. I’m pretty sure Banax makes them. The DT versions are more colorful with a shallow spool version as well. Like a power finesse spool. 7&8 speeds only. 2 Quote
