awesome! they really should do some sort of recall for all these rods rather than wait for them all to fail and do further damage to their reputation..

better to step up and own the problem rather than let it play out which will take a long time. And lots of people who have these issues may not ever buy a St. Croix again.

I have no dog in this fight but if a manufacture is fixing issues or taking care of their customers that is good to hear. Seen a lot of manufacture defects on rods and reels (many brands) and as long as they take care of it I'll be back. St. Croix has always tried to push the envelope on design and that's awesome in my opinion. Their new avid and LT series rods are favorites right now.

I FINALLY got a chance to see these in person and hold them in hand. I'm just not a fan of the plastic St. Croix is using on their handles on their new rods.

The Bass X has it, the new Mojo Trigons have it. I even looked at the new Panfish rods today while we were at the Bass Pro and Cabelas stores by Louisville, and the whole reel seat and handle on the new Panfish models have it.

It just feels cheap to me and I don't understand why they are going to it on everything. To each their own, but I am not a fan.

I believe its because they switched to SeaGuide reel seats on their lower to mid range models which aren't that great compared to Fuji. but it was a cost cutting measure. The pandemic really hit many manufacturers hard.

they aren’t as bad as you think.  I have a couple panfish series rods as well as bass x rods and the reel seats are fine with me.  They do what they’re intended to do and hold my reels in place.  I find them comfortable as well.    Until you actually fish them then you don’t know.  And if you have issues.  St croix will help you out.   I got my bass x rods just to take out shore fishing and really beat on them.  Plus I let my kid use them and if something goes wrong it’s not a big deal.  As long as it’s not my higher end rods and regardless these bass x rods have taken a beating with no issues.
still haven’t tried the new trigon rods yet though.

Well, that's positive to say that they aren't as bad as you think! LOL! Call me weird, but I've really got more than enough rods than I would ever need without spending $120 - $160 on something that I have to convince myself that it isn't as bad as I think! 😂😂

I'm sure they fish fine and maybe hold up fine,.. But this is just something I can't get into enough to spend money on, especially considering all the other options out there.

And I understand what Hulkster is saying about the pandemic hitting companies hard, but I don't know that making things so cheap and ugly that people don't want to buy them is the answer.

Don't get me wrong... Not specifically talking about just the Mojo Trigon. I actually like the outside the box thinking of the truangle shaped cork portion. Just not a fan of the plastic portions on the rest of the handles on their recent releases, especially the Panfish models for example.

@Hulkster Although this isn’t meant as a poke to you I have a few different rods with non Fuji reel seats and have zero issues with them including one of my favorite reel seats being on a Wright & McGill rod which I believe is a sea guide reel seat along with Okuma EVX rod that I believe has a sea guide reel seat although I could be mistaken. I think the issue lies more in the reel itself as I have an older Abu spinning reel that will not tighten down in my BPS panfish elite rod which has a Fuji reel seat without a shim under the reel foot. @FrnkNsteen I will agree with you that the specific panfish rod you’re showing is far too much plastic imho and what led me to the panfish elite rod in the first place.

Are you suggesting Matt Allen takes sponsorship money from St. Croix? Pretty sure that is not the case. In fact, I don’t think he is sponsored by any manufacturers, other than getting a cut of TW stuff his viewers buy through his links. My take is that Matt and Tim promote stuff they fish with and like, versus stuff from manufacturers they are sponsored by. Which places them squarely in the minority of YouTubers. (I don’t begrudge YouTubers getting manufacturer money, as long as they are transparent about it.)

I always got the feeling that they get some checks from Shimano and Megabass, the endorsement of Shimano over Daiwa is noticeable.. Just the idea that the Daiwa Zillion (a well regarded reel for most users in this site) its never used or recommended in their videos is incredible. (I'm not a Daiwa fanboy by the way, I'm manly Shimano but the Zillion is amazing)

The Trigon grip is cool but reel seat feels cheap and I think if SC didn't push that so hard and let the word of mouth do the job people would be raving about it. Also, better pictures on the media release would have help, they are not as ugly in real life.

They definitely partner with brands like Dirty Jigs, Hog Farmer and River2Sea. They even have their own line of baits/tackle with those companies.

And they used to never talk about Daiwa. But that's not the case anymore. They've been talking about Daiwa quite a bit for a few years now.

That is true. But “partnering” means different things to different people. Their partnering with those companies (Daiwa notwithstanding) involves them helping to design products based on market gaps they saw that needed to be filled. So there’s arguably some innovation there, and yes profit-sharing, which is totally appropriate. My issue is with some YouTubers whose partnerships just means they contract to promote the company’s products to the exclusion of others, and agree to do x number of vids or mentions about those products per week or month, etc. The latter channels are what I have tended to move away from. That’s just me; everyone of course is free to watch what they want based on what they find informative and entertaining. (Another non-starter for me: drama and negativity. And stupid click-bait titles like “96.7% of people fish this bait wrong,” blah blah blah. Silliness.)
