how's that trigger? one thing I have noticed with some of the Seaguide handles is the triggers are super short. like a little nub.

does it feel ok in hand with a reel on it?

I’ll admit the pictures didn’t make the handle look very appealing but in person I really like it. As for the Trigon shape itself, it does feel very comfortable in my hand and has the same quality you’d expect from St. Croix. It just showed up yesterday so I won’t be able to put it through the motions until Sunday. I ended up getting the 7’ 4” HF.

Well I blanked Sunday, but so far I like it! The handle is really comfortable in my hand. As expected only my ring and pinky finger are on the handle on the casting rod. Spinning rods will be a different story. I matched it with a Tatula 150 and the two pair together pretty well. I need to catch some fish on it before I can give more input.

I’ll be back at it again this coming weekend.

All good. Omnia just put out 20% off store wide today for members so I jumped on that and bought one. 140 bucks. Cant pass that up!

Got it a couple hours ago. Initial impressions are just wow.

The Trigon grip isn’t a gimmick. St Croix was spot on when they said it feels natural because it really does fit your hand perfectly.

I got the 7’1 MF spinning.  It’s lightweight, almost abnormally.  Feels as light as my Victory’s which are feather light. With a reel the balance is perfect. Couldn’t say this about the Victory. The action feels much more true like I wanted not like the Victory which felt way too soft. The ergonomics are so comfortable to hold in hand.  The Victory for me was too thin and hurt my hands pretty badly within 15-20 minutes of fishing If you notice I really don’t like the Victory lol but that is the only other St Croix rod I’ve owned and can compare. I’d choose this every day over the Victory even though it’s SCIII vs SCVI

The most interesting thing for me is the grip of course. I typically go Pinky and ring finger below then middle and pointer above. With this rod it just feels natural to go full hand above which is something I’ve always thought felt uncomfortable. On the Trigon it just feels right.

Of course all this could change as I fish with it but initially I am very very impressed.

Something you can’t see in pictures is the beautiful deep purple. When the light hits its glorious.

Yeah, they tried to get too cute. If that handle shape is so much better, how come none of their other rods have them? I think the way most anglers hold their rod (casting) they choke up to the point where they aren't really holding the rod by the handle anyways. The reel seat is what matters more...to me at least.

I have a buddy who lives near Park Falls. He stopped in at the factory yesterday to hold some. He didn't care for them at all, and he loved the previous line. I guess everyone is different. Matt Allen had good things to say about them, but he also has reason to ($).

Are you suggesting Matt Allen takes sponsorship money from St. Croix? Pretty sure that is not the case. In fact, I don’t think he is sponsored by any manufacturers, other than getting a cut of TW stuff his viewers buy through his links. My take is that Matt and Tim promote stuff they fish with and like, versus stuff from manufacturers they are sponsored by. Which places them squarely in the minority of YouTubers. (I don’t begrudge YouTubers getting manufacturer money, as long as they are transparent about it.)

@NoFroFishing I just got the spinning rod earlier this week and I’m looking forward to trying it out tomorrow. I told you it was super comfortable in the hand. It’s one of those you need to see it to believe it. You wouldn’t think it would really make that much of a difference but it does!

While the blank is the same, it’s a bit lighter than the older Mojos.

They claim they don’t but who really knows.

No. They put TW links to the products they're talking about in their description. If people click on them and buy the product, they get a cut from TW.

Since my initial impressions I caught 6 or so bass. Between 1-3 lbs so nothing huge but still fish. Using a Shakey Head with a T-Mac and a 2.5 weightless Yamatanuki. I really do like everything about it so far. They got me, I am a sucker for the purple and the Trigon grip.

I will be buying the casting rod as soon as Omnia gets the 7' HF back in stock.

thanks for the feedback.   I’m intrigued and think I’ll be keeping an eye out for them out here.

then before the bait lands I’ve switched to this grip to work the bait

Interesting.

One of my silent gripes about spinning rods is that so few have any useful grip area above the reel seat. And that's because I choke up on the rod as far as I can – there is so much more control up there.

Just wanted to add for future readers.. I ended up selling both of my Trigon rods due to the poor real seat.

Beautiful rod, love the trigon grip on the spinning rod. Trigon grip on the casting rod made no difference to me as its too low. The plastic real seat is complete garbage though and will unscrew itself with ease on the casting rods in my experience and doesn't feel like it gets tight enough. It really feels like they cheaped out hard on that.

That's an issue with most US market rods, the reel seat is cheap plastic.  Yeah a lot are Fuji, but still plastic.  I'd expect something better at that price point.  Even the Chinese use wooden real seats with stainless rings on budget rods.

Mine haven’t loosened but my gear lives outside, maybe the weather welded it on there haha

I FINALLY got a chance to see these in person and hold them in hand. I'm just not a fan of the plastic St. Croix is using on their handles on their new rods.

The Bass X has it, the new Mojo Trigons have it. I even looked at the new Panfish rods today while we were at the Bass Pro and Cabelas stores by Louisville, and the whole reel seat and handle on the new Panfish models have it.

It just feels cheap to me and I don't understand why they are going to it on everything. To each their own, but I am not a fan.

It looks only ok to me. I would have to handle it to decide. I am tryin g to get away from cork when I can. I really like many of the carbon fiber handles out there now.

I recently got a St. Croix Legend Elite rod for my Texas rig rod. This rod is amazing, as it should be for that price. I was going to send it back if I didn't love it. Well, I will be keeping this beauty. Now, I have to resist the urge to get another....

Anthropometric?  That must have been the concept used by Bass Pro Shops when they came out with the Power Hump.

rod years ago i used for worm fishing that had a hump on it. I lost the rod to the river one night sadly. I wish I knew what model it was as I would like to replace it with something similar. Some that have the hump feel great, others just feel odd. I had a old Bionic Blade that felt very awkward to grip. Sent it back.

I had a Diawa

I've been using them for 5 months now, and have caught plenty of smallmouth and largemouth on both the baitcasting and spinning rods without any issues with the reel seats.  Well....no issues with anything on the rods at all.

It's funny on these forums.  Guys will bemoan the fact that there are so many knockoffs and copycats, and nobody is introducing anything new. Every lure, every reel, every rod, every boat do-hicky is just a copy of something else.  All the time you see it here.

Then, when somebody comes out with something new and different, guys will pounce on it and try as hard as possible not to like it.  They'll find every reason under the sun to hate it; even make stuff up to justify their aversion to something new. Any positive claims about said product are quickly denounced no matter what the claims are.

Seems like nobody is happy about anything these days! LOL

C'mon guys, fishing is supposed to be fun.  Leave the negativity out of it.  There's already too much of it in this world.

I hope this line works for them. St. Croix has been getting dragged through the mud on facebook and reddit because reel seats are falling apart or coming unglued in the BassX line, Victory line and Legend Tournament lines.

my local tackle store (Sail) even has 2 legend Tournament rods discounted because the reel seats turn 360 degrees (obviously the glue failed there too).

I have a Victory Marshall rod and the glue failed at the lug nut in front of the reel. I called St. Croix regarding a replacement, and they offered me a new rod for $50 and I could keep the old one rather than ship it back. I re-glued the rod I had and now have two. I'm happy!
