I guess ur talking about ugly stick lite

Decent rod for crankbaits and newbies

get the 7' M

No, it isn't good for Crankbaits.  Go up to at least a medium.  However, I will say that ugly sticks have no sensitivity whatsoever.  But, they will last a life time.  After you upgrade, you'll find a light stick good for bream and a med-med heavy, suitable for general catfishing.

Good luck, pal.

The ugly stick worked well for me in the past................catching trout...............I would never have one for bass fishing..........Just my .02..............but, remember, dont look a gift horse in the mouth!

Do not ask her to get the ugly stick unless you have a terrible habit of breaking rods.  They lack the backbone for a good bass rod, and in terms of feel as we used to say in NY.......fuggedaboudit.

>;) hey whats wrong with ugly stiks? I;ve used one for about 5 years as a bass rod and it has served me well. Its a medium action 6'. I don't know why you guys say it has no senitivity, i can feel every nibble on my rod. Although the foam on it is alittle worn.

On the other hand,Berkley lighting rods, i would never get one again. I had a 4lb bass on and the rod broke when i was trying to set the hook. But people have different tastes so, see what feels good for ya.

If you think a ugly stick is sensitive, try a Fenwick GT or Venture. The difference is amazing, and the fenwicks are only $20 more.

Rods can get fractured before being used, and once you get a fish on they break. This can happen to all rods, ugly stick or not.

Warrenty usualy covers it.

Never even heard of a fenwick before bucketmouth...I'll have to try it when my ugly stik breaks or when i get money:). I don't even know if the stores here carry fenwick..

Buy a shimano rod for $40 from a store around you then if you break it you can take it back and get a new rod the same day.  You can get a sensitive rod that won't be as durable but you will be able to get a new rod if you happen to break it.  Also, it isn't that difficult to take care of a rod, stuff will happen but paying attention will limit most mishaps.

Fenwick introduced the first graphite fishing rod.

Your "best value" is a BPS combination or something comparable from another major retailer. Buying an Ugly Stick is not a good option for a serious bass fisherman. There are plenty of other options at the same pricing point.

walmart has them somtimes...

And Dicks Sporting or local tackle shops should carry them.

They are great rods, even the low end ones. And i have never broken a rod with a fish on, never. They only times i've had rods break is when they are leaning on something and somone steps on it or somthing heavy falls on it. In these situations a ugly stick would break too.
