I used to use 8 or 10 lb Andes mono when I was King Salmon fishing in the Salmon River in New York State. Very soft and very decent quality line. But....it had more stretch than any other mono I have ever used. Normally I would consider that a drawback, but when catching King Salmon in fast water with light tackle, the extra stretch was actually a benefit. Hookset were not a problem as King Salmon will pretty much hook themselves due to their immediate and very fast/powerful run. I don't like it for Bass Fishing though.

What’s everyone using these days for spinning? 6-8lb test. Normally a trilene xl guys but haven’t been to happy the last few times I spooled up.

Sunline Super Natural is excellent small diameter low memory mono line at similar price as XL.

Fresh water spinning reels .010 diameter line to reduce coiling from line memory. 8 lb test Super Natural is .009D.

Am I right that Trilene XL and BPS Excel are the same? XL - Excel...same name and the line feels verrrry similar.

When I worked at BPS, Excel line was made by Pure Fishing (Trilene/Stren parent company). I'm not sure if it was XL or XT. Your theory sounds about right, never really thought about that.

While BPS does shop contracts from time to time, Pure Fishing has been making  BPS Excel for decades.

I use lots of different mono line. My favorites are:

Berkley Big Game

Vicious Fishing Ultimate Mono

Cajun Mono abrasion resistant gator green

Berkley Trilene XT

Sufix Siege

Back in 2001,  I switched from Trilene XL/XT to Pline CX and CXX (CX for spinning and CXX for casting).  I do use a couple other lines as well.
